I was at the game with the Heat attacking the basket I was sitting near for the second half. The last 2 or 3 minutes it felt like there were a lot of bad calls that went against us. We were up a decent amount in the 4th and then these last few minutes it felt like every time Miami was getting a whistle for at best a soft foul. It's hard to tell when you are at the game though so on TV/slow mo were these pretty weak calls or were we fouling them that much?

He wasn't set at all and leaned into it with his forearms.
Exactly what Garnett did with Mike Miller on the other end.

Garnett was set however (he in fact was just waiting on Miller), Wade wasn't in any way set in his screen.

Miller got blown up because his team didn't call out the screen, Wade blew Baby up like a pulling Guard on a linebacker.

Garnett may have been set but it was pretty obvious the he moved/leaned his shoulder/upper arm area right into the jaw of Mike Miller.

I never disputed that Garnett leaned into Miller, he was however set on the screen.

Thus not the same as what Wade did.

I don't know if I'd say he leaned into his jaw but..if you wanna take someone out who isn't looking with the least possible effort, you hit them square, feet planted, and shoulder to shoulder. That's what KG did, he got Miller's center of gravity. I dunno if leaning on a screen is illegal or not, but its what happened.

Now, as far as Wade's pick..

Yes, Wade was moving..but blown up like a pulling guard into a linebacker? Wade was upright, and didn't really look like he exploded into Davis at all..he even had to take a step back.

I dunno if Baby flopped a little, or if wade is just strong enough so that he can take a 300lb man running full speed into him and give it back without needing any kind of leverage (aka, planting his feet, exploding up, shoulders squares)..but to me it kinda looked like a block you'd see in a pee-wee football game.

He lowered his shoulder into Miller, which is an automatic (and correct) offensive foul call on any player not named Kevin Garnett. Just saying.

Does anyone think he really "laid" BBD out.  Looked to me more like BBD just went down by himself when he felt contact.  And in the scheme of things, I thought it was a good no call.

Yes, I think he layed him out.  When players flop, their legs usually do not keep going forward as they fall.

Haha. You honestly think they'd call that on Howard or James?

A bit of hyperbole on that, you're right he didn't "explode" into the block (which wasn't necessary and could have been called). He did however move into with his arms right inside the "numbers" and catch Baby off balance trying to recover.

Didn't look like a flop to me, he was just completely off balance trying to close out on Miller. Wade was leaning into him and still had momentum.

::)

Dampier, Perkins, LeBron, Fisher, Howard, Pierce, and Davis have all done similar things many times and not been called.

Leaning into a screen isn't an automatic call at all.

I think Wade is a very strong guy and caught him off balance. You really think Davis is going to flop instead of trying to fight through a screen on a game closing play?

Maybe other star players get away with similar stuff. Garnett moves and leans on screens most, if not all of the time.

The bottom line is that both calls discussed here could have gone either way, and I really have no problem with this, as long as they went the same way. If anything, Garnett's screen was less legal than Wade's.

I disagree, setting a moving screen is a more obvious call to me than one in which you've shifting your weight into the screen.
