It's a good question. I think the answer is yes, absolutely. Big Baby has improved his body a little bit each year and it has correponded directly with incremental improvements in his game.
He should definately lose about another 20-25 lbs and get down to around 265 to 270 lbs.
1. At roughly 270 lbs there wouls still be very few guys in the league that weigh more than him. For example, Bynum weighs 285 and Howard weighs 265...
2. By losing 20 more pounds Baby wouldn't be losing muscle, he'd be losing "FAT". You cna see it under his shirt when he runs. He's made improvements for sure, but he's still pudgy.
3. And that's the thing - I think if Baby lost another twenty pounds, he'd actually get stronger, not weaker. He'd have better muscle tone, blance, overall strength and agility.
4. He'd be "better" able to guard the big guys like Howard, Bynum, whoever because he would be a better athlete. Similarly, he'd be quicker, stonger and more agile and this would allow him to put alot more damage on most power forwards as well.
5. Baby isn't so strong because he's fat or becaue of his weight, he's so strong because he's built like a tank "in his frame", his bones and his natural muscle mass. It's not the fat. The fat makes him weaker actually. His legs are like tree trunks, he needs to lose that fat on his upper body.
6. In short, if he lost another 20 lbs he's become more like Barkeley (minus the long arms) and less like Oliver Miller.
7. It would be the best career move he could make. If he doesn't do it he'll probably start getting knee problems sooner rather than later.
8. If he lost another 20, and did a karl Malone / Perkins routine on us, we could be looking at a guy who can still guard the center and power forward positions, as well as some samll forward on D, and possibly put up near 20-10 numbers if playing 38 minutes a night.
