After a couple trades, the Suns' roster is still a work in progress:

PG: Nash/Mayo
SG: Afflalo/Mayo
SF: Casspi/Aminu
PF: Jamison/McDyess/Wallace
C: Bargnani/Haslem/Wallace

Bench bigs are fairly interchangeable. Improved defense on the wings. Still could use some tinkering to the starting frontcourt, though.

Wallace seems like an odd fit.

Do any of the starters go inside the three point line?  I see a good 4 corners offense.

Good fit around Nash.

Wallace was a throw-in in the deal with Minnesota. I'll make him available, but I could do a lot worse with him as the 5th big in the rotation.

I wonder if Jamison can play the three; he's played a handful of minutes there for Cleveland this season. If he's such a defensive liability, perhaps it's better to put him on the wing. I can start Haslem, McDyess, or Wallace alongside Bargnani.

Nash + Jamison (SF) + Bargnani = Calderon + Hedo + Bargnani

Defensively, I mean. In terms of being a hugely vulnerable combination, that trio is highly comparable (actually worse) than that Raptors trio ... and we all saw how dysfunctional those three were together defensively.

You cannot play those three players alongside one another and expect to have any semblance of an effective overall defense.

I was disappointed to see Phoenix let go of JJ Hickson. I thought he could be a very effective scorer in their offensive system (1 in 4 out, Nash playmaker, run and gun).

I don't think the Suns have anyone else on the roster now who gives them an interior scoring threat / presence.

I thought Hickson would have given them more of an offensive and overall contribution than Antawn Jamison is capable of offering of them ... given the Suns other personnel.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
PG: Kyle Lowry/Jerryd Bayless
SG: Landry Fields/Reggie Williams
SF: Paul Pierce/Reggie Williams
PF: Serge Ibaka/Drew Gooden/Tyler Hansborough
C: Andrew Bogut/Drew Gooden

Thoughts behind the Psycho-T pick:

I like him for my team because he's basically the white version of Big Baby. We have our first two centers, Andrew Bogut and Serge Ibaka, pretty set in stone.

Tyler Hansbrough fits in because he can score, he hustles as much as any guy in the league, and he can defend well as long as he doesn't have too much of a size discrepancy. A good 4th big for me, that will provide an urgency (borderline frantic) that Drew Gooden lacks. Basically, he's a white big baby. He's a little undersized, he's got short arms, but he's strong, he's got a jumper, and he's going to bring the energy off the bench.

Pas des thoughts?

Not enough offense and I feel bad for the captain playing on a team that is years away.

BTW, isn't it interesting how much depth most teams have since we contracted two franchises?  Are you watching, David Stern?  (I know you are)

I think that's a fair assessment.

I felt giving up Hickson's offensive capabilities were worth the defensive upgrade from Carter to Afflalo, especially considering Afflalo's efficiency and shooting ability.

Most of the observations about my current lineup were "great offense, terrible defense." I just have to make another deal to shore up my frontcourt rotation. If necessary, I'll move one of Jamison or Bargnani to the bench, and start a defensive minded rebounder like Haslem or Wallace.

To be perfectly honest, I don't really know all that much about your guys, or about how they fit together.

The Gooden-Bogut frontcourt in the real Milwaukee has been a bit of a bust, no? Ibaka seems like a nice up and coming big, but is he capable of playing 30+ minutes a night?

I think there's a lot of pressure on Pierce to score 25+ a night.

I for one don't believe lack of talent is an NBA issue. Given the level of international play as well as the longevity of today's players the pool is only going to get deeper.

I think there's a lot of pressure on Pierce to score 25+ a night.

On the nose. Bogut is only scoring 14 a night and not in a particularly efficient manner (.49 FG% .42 FT%). I love Lowry, "Muddy" Fields and Ibaka. All are all high-effort, team-oriented players, and chippy, plus defenders but there isn't a reliable third option there.

The Bucks should get some offense off the bench from Reggie Williams - who isn't getting steady minutes in Golden State - and Gooden. Although Drew is out four-five weeks and is a mistake prone player that I don't think very highly of.

But this is a team that should be really strong on the glass and tough defensively with good size. Not an easy out.

And I do like the Hansborough pick for all the reasons you state. I'd target a better back up point guard next.

PG:Deron
SG: Ronnie Brewer
SF:Josh Smith/Artest
PF: Rashard/Hickson
C: Collison/Shaq

I plan on picking up a SG this round that can shoot to balance out the loss of Afflalo, but otherwise I think I am doing pretty solid,

I wonder if you might put Lewis at SF (where he seems to be playing in DC these days), Smith at the PF, and Hickson as your starting C.

I think you have some different looks you can throw out, depending on your matchups. A combo guard would definitely help.

Is there enough half court offense?

Does Smith shoot well enough from mid range to use in a pick and roll?

Im really considering going small with a lineup of

Deron
Artest
Rashard
Smith
Hickson

I think having a smith and Hickson Frontcourt with a PG like Deron would be very fun to watch
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

I don't buy Artest at SG, unless he loses 30 pounds. He's just not quick enough to guard opposing 2s.
