With the 28th pick of the 6th round, the Spurs take Hakim Warrick

Steal.

WOOP WOOP! THAT'S THE SOUND OF DA POLICE!
couldn't believe he was still on the board at this point

A lot of it is probably due to Real Life Phoenix jerking around his playing time.  I don't think they're handling him well at all.

Chuck Hayes.  The guy shouldn't be able to produce at his size, but he does.

Yup.  Very valuable bench player who can even produce in spot starts occassionally.

Occasionally? In 33 starts this season he's averaging 8.4 points on 61% shooting, 7.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.1 steals and nearly a block per game while playing plus defense as a badly undersized center.

I think better than a number of front court players taken over the last couple of rounds, including the Rocket's other center, Brad Miller.

A game of 8 points and 7 rebounds isn't exactly "producing" for me.  Seriously, almost any NBA caliber big man can do that if given the minutes that Hayes has had as a starter.

I'm looking at his game log.  Of 33 games started this season, he has 2 double-doubles.  He has 11 games of 10+ points and 7 games of 10+ rebounds.  He definitely doesn't "produce" regularly.

I think he's ultimately a bench player.  But like I said, a very good bench player.

I'll probably get killed for this, but I believe Mayo has to rebound from a horrible year in Memphis.

He also becomes Nash's primary backup.

Eh, I dunno how I feel about it really. Vince Carter is the superior offensive player by a large margin, but he's definitely the inferior defensive player, and its possible that Mayo could improve next to Nash, while Carter will hit a hard downward slide in the near future.

Dunno though how OJ Mayo fits into the Phoenix situation if they're keeping Nash, but aside from another true star, I wonder how anyone fits next to Nash in Phoenix..and I don't think this is really that much of a terrible downstep.

Sad as VC's defensive effort is, I don't think he's a worse defender than Mayo at SG.

I like this trade for Phoenix. Definitely could see Mayo's talents properly utilized alongside Nash, and I think just on athleticism alone he's an upgrade from Vince at the 2.

Agreed -- Vince is a better defensive player than Mayo + a far superior rebounder.

I believe OJ Mayo to be best off as a point guard but I am uncomfortable with the thought of him being used in a system like the Suns. Mayo should be a halfcourt setup guard + scoring PG.

OJ Mayo is not a playmaker and will have difficulty executing a run and gun offense from the point. In this offense, I think it's best to keep OJ Mayo at the two as often as possible.

As a stand-alone defensive player, I agree. But not at the 2 - especially considering Phoenix already has some slower small forwards in Artest & Omri
