The Miami Heat select Jason Terry.
I prefer Jason Terry as a starter to Ty Lawson. He's a better complement to Wade and LeBron.

Also, playing in the second unit would give Lawson more freedom as a ball-handler and playmaker.

Help both players be individually more effective and create more effective lineups too.

Absolutely. Terry is great fit in the backcourt alongside Wade.

The Miami Heat select Jason Terry.

He was one of my two.  Probably the best player left on the board.

Folsom Prison selects Brendan Haywood.
Thank goodness! Finally someone selects Brendan Haywood.

There were a half dozen teams or so that I couldn't believe passed up on Haywood in this round.

Excellent pick ... gives you a formidable starting five.
I came really close but I think he's sucked pretty bad this season.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I disagree that he has "sucked".  He's the second best center on his team, maybe.  However, when the first team center is Tyson Chandler (having a great year), there's no shame in being second.

Agreed -- good player, bad situation ... bad situation in terms of availability of minutes.

Brendan Haywood is just as effective a player as he was last season.

He is just caught behind a more talented center (Tyson Chandler) who is eating up the majority of the available minutes ... leaving Haywood with a marginal role in the side and Haywood hasn't responded too well to it. He is doing okay but he is clearly unhappy and his focus while on the court hasn't been what it should be ... or would be when playing minutes more in line with what a player of his ability should be receiving.

It's a pity about his contract. Otherwise, he should be looking to get the heck out of Dallas. A bad way to spend the last few good years of your career ... stuck in a diminished role not enjoying your basketball. Tough situation for him.

yup, finally i disagree with Hobbsy in one pick
Haywood had a bad to very bad year
I am just about to say "the name" have a better year than him
or hes having.

but he fits in that team thats a fact
I still can think on 2 centers top of mind that even when hated around can do a better job there

Yeah ... have to agree with Edgar here ... Haywood has been struggling a lot this year, although to be fair, he's not getting as many minutes. I'd put Batum in the "average" category for SF's also. ;)

Haywood is still a top-tier defender, shot blocker, and rebounder.  He isn't seeing a lot of minutes, but he's 19th in the NBA in blocks per minute, 28th in the NBA in rebounds per minute, and 18th in FG% (among guys playing 15+ minutes).  Those are all very productive numbers.

I think there's a distinction between struggling and not seeing minutes because there's a better player on your team.  It's a lot like Gortat:  he produced when given the opportunity, but he didn't see much opportunity.

Haywood has been very productive this year in the minutes that he has seen.  Regarding Batum, he's a role player, but he's a top-tier defensive SF with a high basketball IQ.  He's a Battier type, only younger and more dynamic.
