Quote
It has been widely speculated that six-time Pro Bowl receiver Chad Ochocinco will not be wearing a Cincinnati Bengals uniform next season. With his future in Cincinnati up in the air, Ochocinco has expressed interest in playing for Bill Belichick in New England.

“@RapSheet PePe and Bill #EPIC,” the charismatic receiver tweeted to the Boston Herald. PePe is one of Ochocinco’s many alter egos.

I like Chad – I like him as a player. I like him as a person,” Belichick said at the time, according to NESN.com. “I like his enthusiasm and the fun he has with football, and I like how he competes on the football field. I have a lot of respect for that.”

Ochocinco gushed about Belichick by saying, “It became a relationship beyond just a football player and a coach. He became a friend of mine. He has a lot of respect for me in my game and I have a lot of respect for him in everything he’s done as a coach.”

So would you want Ochocinco on the Pats? I say yes if it is for reasonable money . The Pats desperately need someone who can stretch the field and Ochocinco can definitely do that .

Sign him up so it will be one less thing to have to draft.

Ochocinco, Seymour and Nnamdi Asomugha would be a dream free agency for the Pats and then use the draft picks on defensive play makers

...  been saying this for a couple weeks, since the Bengals announced that they likely weren't bringing Chad back.  Makes all kinds of sense, especially given how badly this teams needs a real playmaker at the receiver spot.

Hopefully if for some reason Belichick wanted him he'd make him change that moronic name first.

Isn't Aaron Hernandez wearing 85 right now?

Does he still have the speed to stretch the field? I didn't watch Cincy play much this year so I don't know how well his legs have held up.

He had 67 catches for about 900 yards and 4 tds. He averaged 12. 4 yards per catch and his career average is about 14 yard per catch.

I think he can still stretch the field, at least for a few seasons.

I have my doubts, WRs on bad teams are one of the positions where so so players can pile up stats.

Without having watched a ton of Bengals games last year, hard to say if the drop in YPC was due to a decline in his game or the continued mediocrity of Carson Palmer.  He did have an even-worse YPC two seasons ago, and bounced back the year before this with a much better figure.

He's still a legit #2 wideout, even if not a true #1.  Doesn't have the size element that Randy Moss in his prime brought, but he's a bigger target than Branch and Welker.

It would all come down to $$.  Gotta think that at this point in his career, he'd take a little less to get out of Cinci.

I think he is still a physical receiver but not a field stretcher.  He is a Keyshawn Johnson not a Moss or Andre Johnson type.  He can still be a good player but im not sure its worth it.

Even though alot of the times Ocho doesnt give bulletin board material to the other teams he still talks to much for what NE is trying to do.  If the Welker incident taught us anything, Ocho would have to sit out the first series of every game  ;)

I hate to mention the great Randy Moss but if Brady could make Moss better, I'd welcome Chad into NE with open arms.

Meh, we need an upgrade on defense, not on offense.  A playmaking WR would be nice, I guess, but not if it means Brady goes back to forcing the issue to one or two guys again.

I want to see the Patriots make moves to turn themselves into more of a rough and tumble grinding team that happens to have a good passing offense (like the Ravens, Steelers, Jets, Packers etc) rather than a finesse team that depends so much on Brady having a great game.

Maybe.  I think the team kind of psyched themselves out this past weekend, though.   Lot of young guys who suddenly found the game a bit too big for them, the lights a little too bright.  I tend to think that having a guy like Ochocinco on the team - a guy who is kind of playful, but still plays hard, not unprofessional like a lot of the guys on the Jets seem to be - I tend to think it might have been a really good thing for the team.

For all of the improvement in the Patriots locker room, for all the desire for a professional atmosphere, I think this team might have been well-served by just remembering...  it's a football game, play hard but enjoy it.

true , but they still need someone they can get the ball to downfield through play action. I think ochocinco can get down field better than any WR on the roster and make a play .

But I would like to see them get much tougher too. I would take Mark Ingram if he is still there with the #18 pick or try to move up a few picks to get him. BJGE is a nice 2nd RB and Woodhead is a good 3rd down/ shotgun back , but they are lacking a really good stronger 1st string runner and Ingram is definitely that. I have seen him going around # 15 in most mock drafts.

Also like I mentioned before, it would be smart to try and get Seymour back. He would greatly help the defensive line and leadership of this team .

Pass.  Bill did a good job getting rid of problem players this year and offseason.  There's no reason he should bring one in.

I completely agree.
The focus of the offseason needs to be on the defense, not on offense.  I've seen some articles in the press saying the Pats problem is that they lack the type of big WR to stretch the field.  This is myopic, and based off the Jets game.  The Pats did fine with their offense this season, but had troubles with the defense.
