Jermaine O'neal has missed 20+ games this season.

Nuff said.

A fat, 7 foot, out-of-shape yet available sheed, is better then a broken, cant stay healthy, cant stay available, J.O.

So you would rather have no sheed then an available sheed?

That makes no sense. JO is DONE. Sheed would at least be a viable replacement.

If a girl treats you cruddy for a year, then treats you nice for five minutes, then breaks up with you do you look back at the five minutes with fondness?

Kinda depends on how good those 5 minutes were... ;D

Then he only mailed it in for 79 games.

Oh, plus the first round...my bad.

I disagree about JO. He played 70 games last year. He has looked really good when he's been on the court this year. I don't think he's done at all. I think the Celtics will do everything they can to make sure he's healthy for the playoffs. That said, 4 of our 5 big men have injury problems, bring in Sheed.

Granted, we all know who Rasheed is, and that is, in part, why his name is coming up...but is he the best big available?

After a long layoff, I really doubt it.

Shaq/Perk/Semih is a pretty solid C rotation, with Semih in the "Greg Kite" role.

No need for Sheed, even without JO.

I'd rather Sheed than Semih. Not to take anything away from Semih, but who do I think has a better chance of helping us win a title? Sheed.

Based on last time I saw them play, I'd say Bill Russell would help the most, but now, in 2011?  Of course not.  Same with Sheed.

Yeah thats the same thing

Point is, when it's over, it's over.

The guy played LAST year. Who was better, Jordan in '99 or the 15th man on any team? Point is, just because someone isn't in the NBA right now doesn't mean they're not better than the last player on the roster. PJ Brown came back and helped us out a ton. I'd take Sheed over a lot of current NBA big men. You're Bill Russell argument was ridiculous. A better argument would have been Russell when he was 36 years old not right now, but that would just be using logic, and who needs that?

No need to be uncivil.  Personal attacks are unwelcome.

Edit:

Everyone should cool it.

I merged the three different Sheed threads. They're all about him coming back, we don't need three separate ones.

Sad but true.  Although I will say that during the regular season JO has played better defense than Sheed did during the regular season.  But other than that JO has given us practically nothing.

It's really quite remarkable how bad a signing JO has been.  Sure, he was injured and looked like crap during the playoffs as a result, but last season he averaged over 13 points and over 5 rebounds a game, and played more often than not.  He's really fallen off a cliff this year.

Right. I would rather have no Sheed. I'd rather play with 4 guys Hoosiers style.

I believe not having him is addition by subtraction. I believe that's a major reason the team is better this year.

Did you watch the playoffs last year. The guy CAN contribute to the team. Will he? Who knows. But I'd take the chance.

It was great watching him decide to finally show up.  I don't feel like waiting again and sweating it out.
