The Knicks are looking to trade Randolph for a first rounder so they can get Carmelo. I'm not sure if the Knicks want our pick because its going to be low, but if they do do you think we should pull the trigger on something like Harangody, Wafer, Semih, and a first rounder for Randolph? I think he could be a monster in a few years and he's already a pretty good athletic backup forward, which we could use. KG could mentor him, as they are both versatile big men with similar builds. Randolph's definitely more talented than anyone we could get with our first rounder, hes the same age as a college junior, and he fills a need both now and in the future. At worst, we trade 3 scrubs and a low first rounder for 1 decent backup. If Randolph realizes his considerable potential (he has shown flashes whenever he gets minutes), we could acquire an All-Star for next to nothing
As for helping the Knicks get Carmelo, I don't see what the big deal is because they already lack depth and defense. Carmelo's an average defender at best and they would need to trade at least 2 of their 7 rotation guys to get him. I just don't see how they could beat us even with Carmelo. He doesn't address any of their weaknesses and he excels at something the Knicks already do very well, which is score.
