Big Baby ... I'll take an over-producing bench player over an injury-proned under-producer any day. Don't get me wrong, I love Perk when he's healthy, at least defensively, but the fact is, he's not healthy, and never stays healthy for long.

I disagree.  Since Perk regularly got playing time, this is the first season he's ever missed more than 10 games due to injury.  Since 2008, his games missed:  4, 6, 4.

Obviously, the knee is something to be monitored, but I definitely wouldn't call Perk injury-prone.  He's had a fairly minor shoulder injury flare up a couple times, and now the knee issue.  I don't think that's a troubling injury history for an NBA starter at all.  Greg Oden is injury prone.  Perk has had one major injury.

In terms of who to keep, I think the question comes down to health and contract.  If the Celtics doctors are confident about Perk's prognosis, and if he shows himself capable of helping the team "win now", I think you have to keep him if he'll take a reasonable contract.  Simply put, starting centers are less replaceable than bench power forwards.

Yeah Im with Roy here... Where did all this not healthy, injury prone big man talk come from?  He has had one significant injury in his 8 years with the Celtics... Wasnt there even a point in his career where the Celtics fanbase were refering to him as like "Ironman" or something of that nature.

This should be an actual poll so that we can see what the tally is.

TP for taking the words out of my mouth

Moderators - Would it be too late to turn this into a poll?

Done.

I want to say Perk but this injury makes me a bit nervous. I think Baby has improved pretty dramatically over the past couple years.

I had to read each post to make sure nobody had lost their mind, but I do expect a couple sleep-deprived LSU fans to throw some love to Davis.

I'd give Perk $10 per year before I'd give BBD anymore than he earns now. Perk is irreplaceable. Let alone what bigs are here next season, b/c Shaq would be on his last leg, JO playing half the season, and Semih being his usual.

BBD is not as dependable as we hope. When his bunny hop 10-12 foot jumper is falling, or his rolling towards the basket and not getting stuffed, and he's taking charges, Davis is great. That's 20mpg or less. Keep him in for 30+ minutes, and all of a sudden he thinks he's Ray Allen hanging behind the arc for 3.

Let KG and Perk come back. Field some offers for Davis. See how the chemistry works with our starters and Shaq/JO holding down the paint. Trade him a week before the deadline. Get a player like Landry,Thompson, etc

Perk, period.

as previously stated, it's a lot harder to replace a legit, starting-calibur center than a hustling, non-rebounding, undersized, bench PF.

BBD has had his moments over the years and is definitely helping the team this year but Perk is the one that would serve as a building block with Rondo going forward, not Davis.

keep perk. not even close for me.

perk has skills and abilities in the center position that are very difficult to find.

most likely, his value to the celtics in the future will be constant, regardless of how they build after the big 3 are gone.

i like big baby, but his skill set is easier to replace. he is not a great rebounder for a power forward. he is good, but more players have skill sets that can compensate for the loss of big baby.

"you cant teach height"

toss in the fact that Perk knows how to use his height and this is a no brainier. the 2 hardest spots to fill are PG and C, signing Perk means you have filled both and have a empty roster to build around them with.

Perk - his D and rebounding are clearly superior

Love Baby, but have to go with Perk here. I do hope we can somehow keep both.

I like Glen, but it's Perk by a good distance.

Perk does something almost no other center can do -- effectively defend the best centers in the league. What a huge plus.  Baby has some unique skills too, but his skillset is more replaceable than Perk's, IMO.
