Perk but BBD would be a big loss for the team. He has been amazing off the bench these years. Can play center, PF and even a bit of SF

Perk is going to demand 7 to 10 million a year and BBD will try to pursue 5 to 7

Only one can stay

Harangody looks like he could replace BBD one day but you could not say the same for J oneil/Erden being able to replace even half of perkins game

When i look across the NBA a decent starting c is hard to find whereas a decent pf might be easier to replace and a good backup pf is even easier. We(Celtics)immediate and long term need is a decent starting c.Keeping Perk would probably be the wiser choice even though i would hate to part with Baby because he has shown his versatilty in a pinch that he can play either position at a high level.

I think starting centers who fit our need and system are very hard to find, so I vote Perk.

My first choice would be for both to come back.  Let Davis test free agency again, and try to get him.  If he chooses to leave anyway, Luke might be able to take over the sixth man role, or possibly another free agent, with Luke in training mode (3rd string).  I have grown to love Davis' hustle and his continued improvement, but if he wants to be a starter for another team, that is his option to pursue...what we need for another year, anyway, is a sixth man, and not another starter.

I guess the League contract talks, and possible lockout will have a large bearing on all this talk...

Well, it is quite possible that neither Perk, nor BBD will get what they want come this summer.  If Doc goes with a 3 man rotation at the 5 spot, it's going to keep Perk's numbers down.  Moreover, it will force BBD to play exclusively at the 4, where his minutes will be dramatically cut.  If this occurs, both may get far smaller offers than they anticipate.

Assuming they both do get substantial offers, though, I think the bigger debate is whether we'd want to ever try to keep both.  While I think both could potentially start on a future Celtic contender, I don't see them being effective together.  For that reason, I'd be hesitant to sign both.

However, on the other hand, there probably is something to be said for holding on to both as future trade assets.  Still, that worries me.  Will Baby and Perk both deflate their value once they're forced to play bigger minutes without being surrounded by Hall of Famers?

If BBD doesn't stop shooting 4-17 and killing us with all those outside misses then this is even more in Perks favor! He needs to stop this love affair with the long outside jumper. As Tommy mentioned the other night in his broadcast he has started taking that jumper about 2 feet outside his range and his percentages are starting to show it.

After tonight's game, I had to log in and make an infrequent appearance just to vote in this poll!
Big Baby, who's approx. 6'9" and weighs about 290, just  played 42 minutes and got 3 rebounds and shot 4-17. Unless he's seriously ill or injured, in which case Doc shouldn't be playing him 42 minutes, I don't see how that is even possible.

i think it's a matter of what we want: a specialist or a versatile big?

that said, i'll go with Perk, because he's a legit C who can defend other big men on an elite level and defend the rim. the turnovers and bad hands are annoying, but i'll live with it because Perk is 2nd or 3rd in the league behind Dwight and Duncan in terms of big man D.

i don't mind keeping BBD but i'll be wary of offering him more than the MLE, which i bet he believes he's worth more than. he's confident, ala Rondo, but the difference is that Rondo is probably in the top 10 among the league while BBD is in the top 10 among bench players.

I'm really startin to get sick of Baby. He lost us that Hornets game with that stupid shot and sometimes he can shoot us out of games. He def thinks he's better than he is. I've actually been a fan until recently where he's shootin from way to far out and way too much. I've also recently noticed he SUCKS at rebounding. And his comments about that shot after the Hornets game really got under my skin. Dude thinks he's real hot stuff. Oh and this poll question cannot be serious is that even a question?

He's had a total of 5 rebounds in his last 95 minutes of playing time (over the last 3 games).

The answer to the question, "How much is Baby worth" is becoming apparant...not as much as he was!  Is he playing himself right out of a contract, trying to be some one he is not?

TP, BBD is hurting his value and his chances in free agency, but I wouldn't rule out a "smartass" GM will overpay for him as unrestricted FA.

He certainly is. Finally showing his true worth and colors to the league. I hope he gets no calls again during free agency like a couple years ago when he was holding out but no one was really interested.

  • You say when......
I say Perk, there is still a chance to make perk a real player...but it is also slim. He showed a great game for the first three months last year..then he reverted to the dumb player he was. Bringing the ball down low, leading the league in the dumbest T's i ever saw, playing like a 6 footer instead of a 7 footer. His D is good against inside big men like howard, but he gets lost very easily. If he listens to his trainers, he could be great....but he has a very high school mentality......If he went to college and got trained by them....whew....

I just created an image in my mind of Perk, with those incredibly long arms, in a S/R, rolling to the hoop and throwing down a one-handed tomahawk jam.

It was pretty cool.  A dream, but pretty cool.

In any case, Perk has surely established himself as an NBA starter, and BBD has not.  Which one to keep seems pretty obvious.
