  • Let's Go Celtics!
I don't see either of these trades mentioned in this thread happening as they are both pathetically in favor of the Celtics.

You want Mayo, you need to start thinking Rondo for Mayo and Conley and work it from there and frankly, I don't see the C's doing that.

I think a package of Nate, BBD and a future 1st or Bradley could get Mayo in a green uniform. I would do that deal, but not during the season. BBD is much too important because of the age and health of our other big men

Well, it wouldn't work during the offseason unless BBD agreed to a sign and trade.

At which point the trade swings to hugely in favor of the Grizzlies....

You can't equate: Production on terrible Teams=Production on Contending Teams.

Kenny Smith "Let's not give guys a lot of accolades on a team that has that many losses' He said. "I call it being a looter in a riot. It's easy to get great numbers with all of the chaos going on"

Well, the Celtics would likely have to throw in a 1st rounder.

I am sure there will be better offers, but it fits what Memphis is looking for.  No contracts to worry about extending.  Two young pieces they control at a low price (Bradley and the 1st)

They don't want Davis because he would need an extension.

There's just no way Memphis deals Mayo for our flotsam and jetsam when they could get Anthony Morrow and picks from Jersey or Washington will give you Blatche or Thornton and picks.

The Boston package is just not attractive which is why if you really want mayo in Boston you have to talk Rondo for Mayo and Conley. Its not a trade in Boston's favor or one that Danny Ainge would even think about in 2010-11, but given the quality of offers that Memphis could get around the league for Mayo, who is still locked up for this year and next and can still match any offer he gets thereafter, there's no way a package of a couple of mediocre rookies, a horrible 3rd string SG and other parts is going to land you OJ Mayo, a player that can score 18 PPG and shoot the three and is only 23 years old.

I think Bradley has some solid trade value, but the Harangody/Wafter do not.
Agreed. There is no reason to discount Bradley's value just because he isn't getting minutes with us.

Nevertheless, we can't make a competitive offer for Mayo. This is partly because he won't add enough to our team to justify giving up sufficient talent.

nick, are you spitballing here, or are there rumors of either Jersey or Washington going after Mayo?

A Wall-Mayo backcourt would be tons of fun to watch, I think.

They are looking not to resign him.  Why would they trade for a bigger contract like Blatche.   (not to mention, Blatche and Randolph together?  Are they trying to become the new Jailblazers?)

Marrow might interest them if they like him (since his contract is only 4 million the next three years).  But why would NJ trade away any draft picks at this point when they are so close to getting Melo?  (and if they do, would they have picks to trade?)

Boston type offers gives them a backup PG for the next two season, a guy they can just waive and save, a 1st round picked player in his rookie season (low cost and control the next couple of years) and a 1st round draft pick.

Get it out of your mind about fairness in talent. This is a future salary dump.

A future salary dump for a player they control this season at $4 million and next at $5 million and YOU think they are just gonna dump him for next to nothing in fair value talent or draft picks.

There's no way the C's have a package that would entice the Griz to give up Mayo. They are in zero rush to move him without almost fair trade value. He's under contract for two more years at a controlled number. So they can wade through offers before this trade deadline, the off season and next trade deadline.

You scenario doesn't work. Even for an idiot GM like Chris Wallace.

Memphis could trade OJ Mayo for a lottery pick this summer and get the exact same cap flexibility. Possibly a top 5 pick. Or another highly regarded young prospect who is still on his rookie contract.

There is no way that the Celtics can make any type of competitive offer for Mayo.

The Celtics have absolutely no play for Mayo. Every team in the league can offer a similar package to what is being proposed here, and most teams can offer a better one: similar cap relief with better prospects making little money.

A top 5 pick?  For a guy that has lost his staring spot to a rookie.  For a guy that's point total has dropped to 13 points a game.

For a guy the team has been rumored to be moving so not to have to pay him.

Mayo should definitely be starting. Not sure why he's in the dog house. In 4 of his past 5 games he has put up; 24 points in 24 minutes, 27 pnts in 47m, 17 in 27, and 17 in 25... He would be a lot better than anything a team could pick up in the top 5 and he is only 23 years old.

He's also a strong defender.

He would?

I like Mayo as the future replacement for Ray, but I would not want him to be one of the top two players on the Celtics.  He is not good enough.

That is what teams are looking for with the top 5 draft picks.  A true building block.  While many of them fail, the NBA still pays more for potential then production.
