My take is that, inertia being what it is, the most likly option is that he stays for the year.  Danny won't be in a hurry to change things up unless there's a good reason to, given that we're doing okay (on the backs of our starters).

I also don't think a trade for notable talent is all that likely either, as we don't have any star-potential pieces to move (like Big Al and even GGreen were) or high draft picks (like the #5 that landed Ray).

I do think a trade is both possible and likely, though.  I could see a deal with Indy for one of their PF's and Dahntay Jones (to backup Ray).  Perhaps BBD and VW (immediately cut).  Or a similar deal with Denver for Afflalo and Renaldo Balkman.  I'm fairly sure the money works in both of those, and we are returned a backup-level PF and a SG in each case.  Talent-wise, the Indy scenario returns more talent, but a longer (though small) contract in Jones.

Keeping him is most likely, but a trade would be my preference.

Is anyone disagreeing with the belief that Glen Davis would rather start for a bad team than come off the bench in Boston if the money is close to the same?

I could be wrong, but I think this is only relevant when he no longer believes the Celtics are reasonably capable of winning an NBA championship. I think winning is still more important to him than starting, especially if he continues to get near 30mpg.

If there is indeed a lockout next year, i highly doubt that the celtics would gamble on a trade mid season for their best bench player in a title contention year, just to get trade value out of him, it would have to be a clear cut major upgrade as trading around the deadline is risky buissness, he wont do it just to get value out of him instead of letting him walk.

Glen will most likely walk ala what Tony Allen has wanted to do for years to "be the man" and all the power to him, he needs to do what ever is best for him and his family first, he owes nothing to the celtics, that said i do hope he see's that he's wanted in Boston.. for the right price.

Yeah, I agree. I would expect Davis to choose to playing time over winning.

The only reason he didn't leave the last time around was that he couldn't get an offer. That shouldn't be the case this coming summer.

  • You say when......
BBD should call TA and ask him how it is going......I like TA, but he and bbd can get too confident in their abilities. They both fit in with this team, but are not leaders...anywhere..... BBD, is sort of self limiting also, he still could be in better shape, if he was, he might get in position when those shots are put up..by ray, pp and kg...the guys that are supposed to be shooting them...bbd should be a rebounder/inside guy, instead of thinking he is now an outside shooter, we have that covered...we need him to "find" his role, which is rebounder, and please don't say "if he is in postiion for a rebound, he won't be back on D" How big do you think the court is....the ball will be right there, whether he gets it or not, and if he was in shape, he could cover it. Players here know, you can do it, if you are in shape...and want the ball.

Baby should be smart and realize that KG won't be able to play for that much longer, Baby will have a starting gig chance soon enough.

Why leave a familiar environment surrounding and coaching staff?

I don't think we win a championship with Baby playing 30 minutes a game.  The Lakers (with Bynum) would eat us alive with Baby taking up that many big man minutes.

Once Perk or JO returns and Baby returns to the 17 mpg guy he was last year (fewer if Perk, JO and Shaq are healthy), he'll be reminded of how much room there is for him on the roster and the payroll.

When KG retires, Doc will retire. Doc's here for another championship run and that's how I see it.
The Celtics are going to look completely different in a couple of years. I don't think Baby should consider that he might be up for the starter spot then. He needs to do what's best for him and find a team to start on, contender or not, and then and only then, will we know if he can be a starter on a contending team.

hey guys.......
I don't see Glen being traded for this very reason, and I think Danny will likely let him walk at the end of the season.  I really doubt he'd net too much in return in a trade, so it's better to have him as insurance in the playoffs than try to eek out something in return via trade.

Especially if he wins another ring. If you already have 2 rings, getting paid should be #1 priority.

Half the teams in the NBA make the playoffs anyway. TA might not get many minutes, but he's not on a bad team either.

I agree, the Celtics are Baby´s best long-term option. He already plays starter minutes, knows and is accepted in the environment, which helped him to become the player that he is today, and most fans love him. I hope he recognizes how thankful he should be that things turned out the way they did, and how beneficial his time as a Celtics player is for his career.

If he keeps playing like he did this season, I´d guess he will be worth around the MLE in the summer, and I hope Danny and Wyc are not afraid to pay the terrifying toddler.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.
