I think we have a good bench player in Glen Davis. I think some on this board (including me) have overrated his value at times. I think he believes he is starter material and maybe he is on some teams. Phoenix would be a good example of team I believe he would thrive on as a starter at PF.

I expect the next off season to be tough on players like Davis who would like the security of a longer term contract. I dont expect Danny to give him any kind of contract beyond maybe a one year extention and likely not that.

From a strictly business standpoint, I dont see us (or any other team) signing players for next year and beyond until the CBO is settled. This including new draftees, Free Agents and current players on the roster.

I think we are seeing the last year of BBD as a Celtic.

If the current system is still in place, he is most likely gone.

He is a good role player, but not good enough to give up some of the cap flexibility the Celtics have worked to create.

If the system changes, who knows.

Glen Davis is great when he (as the Rock once said) knows his role and shuts his mouth.

But when he starts thinking that he’s a star it get’s pretty bad. Like i said the other night.. At least when Rasheed got jump shot happy, his jumpers were worth 3 points.

Yeah, I think BBD is very likely to leave this summer.

Second most likely option is Danny over-paying to keep him.

Least likely option is BBD staying on a reasonable contract.

I'd put the odds of those scenarios happening at somewhere around 75%, 20% and 5% respectively.

I think Baby wants to bolt to another team where he would play a "bigger" role (be a starter probably). However I do think there is a better chance that Danny overpays for his services whereas he would never have done it for a player like TA.

It will be interesting to see what happens next summer with Baby because we could realistically see him bolt or stay for the long term.

Considering this, think there's any chance he gets traded before the deadline? To me this is the more interesting question, as i feel it's essentially a foregone conclusion someone else will pay him more.

I think it's unlikely he gets traded before the deadline, Danny doesn't want to go in the playoffs relying solely on Shaq and JO to be healthy and effective for the postseason. Baby brings a lot of things to the team, especially in the playoffs, so I think Danny would rather lose him for nothing this summer after having taken "advantage" of Baby's skills for his last postseason ride with the C's than trade him before the deadline and possibly regret it in the playoffs.

Of course, if he can acquire better value for Davis, knowing that he will bolt us this summer, he will do it but it's not going to happen in my opinion (also you have to wonder if you'd do a Shane Battier for Big Baby trade before the deadline, for example).

I think Baby is here for the year. He has proven he can help us in the playoffs and he will play a role in this years playoffs too... At the end of the season he is going to bolt and try to find himself a big contract and a starting job. I dont think he is going to find one however, and will try and come crawling back to the Celtics where Danny will ultimately have moved on and into another direction after Baby turned him down the first time around.

TP'S. Exactly my reasoning for putting 'deadline trade' as an option in the poll. If you are a heads up GM, you know Davis (and his agent)pretty well, and you have a chance at a 'better fitting' player for the big picture? Why overpay or let him walk for nothing if you have a reasonably healthy Shaq, Perk and JO at the deadline?

Who wouldnt seriously consider including him as a major piece in a trade for someone like Hedo Turkoglu? Josh Howard? Marvin Williams? Shane Battier? Any of which could be available and I am sure there are others.

I feel his performance in the post season will have a lot to do with his future as a Celtics. The post season is where role players can make there best impressions on their present team and other teams. If BBD shows up big in the playoffs his stock will rise overnight.

Glen's biggest asset is his health, honestly.  If he weren't counted on for being a reliable backup big amidst a group of unreliable (health-wise) group, then he'd probably have been gone by now.

I don't see Glen being traded for this very reason, and I think Danny will likely let him walk at the end of the season.  I really doubt he'd net too much in return in a trade, so it's better to have him as insurance in the playoffs than try to eek out something in return via trade.

If Baby can break the bank and get starter minutes somewhere god bless him. I think this year he has shown he can be a great role player if he doesnt force his offense on the game.

He has also shown that he can be a liability on the defensive glass and can struggle in man defense at times.

He is a good role player on a good team. He would be a very flawed starter.

Let him walk if he can get alot of money. He wont be easily replaced though.

I agree.

Baby is a very versatile player, no one elite skill (taking charges I guess lol)

I'm resigned to the fact that he'll get a larger offer than we're willing to give him from another team this off-season.  I can't see him coming back to the C's next year.

It is risky trading Baby late in the season. He knows our system well. This isn't as big of a deal when Perk returns, but with the way JO was shooting, trading Baby leaves KG as the only PF with a perimeter game. (Harangody is irrelevant at the moment)

Having a successful postseason this season is far more important than getting future value for Baby, especially with a lockout looming and with old players. Let's not pretend there is a way to avoid biting the bullet when our vets retire.
