I know European information is somewhat inconsistent and confusing. Since there is so much interest I'll try to explain a bit... So to clear out confusion. Please note that first of all European teams compete in their national leagues (like French, Spanish, Turkish etc.) and then top teams in each country also compete in Euroleague with each other. Obviously Euroleague has much less games and especially if you drop out of it in early qualifying rounds.

So in summary there are two leagues for a European team: their regular national league where they play with teams within their country and Euroleague where they play with teams from other European countries based in qualifications rounds. Does that make sense?

The information below is for last season (2009-2010) and national Turkish Basketball League stats of Semih Erden when he was playing for Fenerbahce:

Number of games he played: 41
Number of hours he played: 14 hours 26 minutes
Number of points he scored: 344
Average points per game: 8.39
2 point percentage: 63.3%
3 point percentage: 0%
Free throw percentage: 64%
Offensive rebound: 65
Defensive rebound: 138
Total rebound: 203
Assist: 43
Ball steal: 23
Ball loss: 65
Blocks: 25

Let me know if you want any other information or his performance on prior Turkish Basketball League seasons or from Euroleague stats...

Hope this provides somewhat more clearer data.

Those stats look quite mediocre.  But looks like he's a decent backup C at least.  So maybe he plays a bit better than his stats.  *shrug*

I knew Rick Robey...Rick Robey was a friend of mine... Semih Erden is no Rick Robey.

Maybe someday.
Rick was a beast of a rebounder, good jump shooter and Larry's drinking buddy.  He never had the passing skills that Semih already has shown.  I should have added in Joe Kleine from our backup center catalog as well.  Always thought he was going to turn into a good starter for us, post chief.

To be perfectly honest, he was only a decent backup even in Fenerbahce. The person that got regular minutes was actually Omer Asik who is in Bulls now. I thought Semih wouldn't be able to get any minutes in Celtics basically, but he surprised me quite a bit. I think he has been working very hard to improve himself and will hopefully continue to do so. I think he probably realizes with stats like above he can't become a well regarded NBA player...

DELONTE is loving him more than anyone...

I can't see the celtics inactivating him in order to make room for west, not with all the injuries we have seen to the bigs...

Hmm, so who would be the odd man out...my guess...wafer...

Hence, Delonte is the biggest fan of Semih's insurgance!!!

Eh, either way, they are not cutting Semih.  No way are they cutting a young 7 footer without giving him a chance.  He's going to get every possible opportunity before the let him go.

Robey's only value to the Celtics was being traded for DJ. Robey was awful.  Semih has much greater natural ability. Too soon to say how he will pan out, but already has a much better feel for the game than Robey.

He has good awareness, can finish with both hands and is a solid passer.  That is more than I expected.  If he can continue to improve on his play as teams begin to scout him, then he can be a valuable contributor to this team this season.  If he can't, he is still 7 feet and has 6 fouls so he will have a role.

So far I can find very little to complain about. He is inconsistent, and that is to be expected, but he is contributing.

Semih has shown me in limited minutes that he is a fundamentally sound player with good hands. He still has to work on his post moves a bit. Even though he's got the art of posting up down, he needs to follow up on his actual move better. But this is far more than anyone expected he would contribute at this point. He reminds me a little of Marcin Gortat. A really big body that will score and play sound when he's in the game. Semih could surprise us and even become the center of the future if he continues to work on his tools.

Semih's main weakness is defense. He is still working on learning the game from a defensive standpoint. He gets lost on rotations too often. But he seems willing to learn, which is the important thing at this stage.

I agree, but he may have been deactivated...not now...
