While his numbers are great, I would say he is playing with better players around him, and shooting/scoring less, in comparision to Magic and Stockton. Stock used to put up 13 dime while scoring 18 points on average.  Magic played with some talented teams, but what if Stockton had Paul, Ray, KG, Shaq, JON to pass to?  I am by no means a Rondo hater, but you just need to be objective sometimes.

None of our guys are in their primes. How do you think Rondo would do with a 27 year old Karl Malone?
Yay!! you make a good point to this terrible argument
First of all, John stockton never averagerd 18 pts a game his entire career
second, Stockton didnt become the player we remember until his 4th season, his first 3 werent any better than rondos first 3 statistically.
and lastly, Stockton played with the  all time leading scorer in NBA history ( edit : 2nd leading scorer all time, that guy magic played with 1st ;D) his entire career, including his absolutelte prime, Imagine rondo getting KG in his prime? nevermind Karl Malone. and he had other good players in their prime, to me that equal or are better than having former great players, for example a prime jeff hornacek is as good as a 34 yr old ray allen
Magic didnt have players to pass too? cmon bro, maybe you should look at this objectively

Stockton got to play with Kareem?

So Rondo now has 82 assists through 5 games.

Is that another record, or not?

(I thought the record was 85 according to the ESPN talking heads)...

They said on the air it was a new record - I think he beat it by one.

No idea what the record is through 6 though.

I can't find the records for Magic Johnson's season where he had 65 assists through the 1st 4 games, but Stockton in 89-90 had 81 through 5 games, which puts rondo's 82 as the record if Magic is out of the picture at this point.

Stockton had 18 in each of games 6-8, meaning Rondo will need to match that to avoid ties...

Don't like the way Rondo was passing up offense in the first quarter to get dimes. Once people kept missing he had to take control of the game and score. Also have to wonder about the last shot in regulation. No way he should have taken that shot; but because it missed he got the record.

Heh, yeah Rondo's streak isn't gonna hold up too much longer.  100 assists in 6 games would be pretty sick, though.

Erm, actually, he had no choice but to take that shot. The play was a high pick and roll with Pierce, except it was well-defended, so Pierce really had nowhere to roll. Rondo, therefore, dribbled in the other direction and took the only shot that the defense was giving him -- and 18-foot jumper.

What else was he supposed to do in 5 seconds of playing time?!

Yeah, Rondo had to take that one, and frankly he got a good look and almost knocked it down. I'd rather have Rondo take the last shot in that situation considering that Pierce turns the ball over 9 times out of 10 on his end of the game isos...

I had no problem with the shot, either.  He certainly had a good look.  It just didn't fall.

There's been final plays in the past where I've screamed or thrown things at the television but last night was not one of those instances.

You guys lost me on this one.  Both Ray and Paul were hot (rare nowadays) why was the last play a Rondo/KG pick and roll?  I mean did you think they weren't gonna cover KG and give Rondo the shot?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa

Rondo had an open look on a very makeable shot and didn't force it.  The only unfortunate thing about it, IMO, was that it didn't fall.

How many times in the past have we seen off balance or forced shots by a Celtic?  Last night wasn't one of those instances.

I didn't say it was a bad look, I just don't think it should have been Rondo taking it in that game.
