Jeff Clark is reporting on the blog's front page that he has is on good sources that Delonte is gone.

Does anyone know if Delonte missed his meds or something? Maybe there was some medical reason for him to flare up like this.

I'm just trying to look at all angles here.

We all know that Delonte is struggling with Bi-Polar disorder. So if he maybe missed his meds or something, this could lead to him flaring up?

Again - just speculation on my part. I'd hate to just cast Delonte off like this, and there is a medical reason for what he did today.

I think this is beyond basketball, if you ask me. Delonte is obviously struggling. It doesn't make his disrespect of Wafer any less troubling, but if this is medically related do we cast Delonte off?

Yes, we cast him off.  This is a basketball team, not a psychiatric hospital.  No one can make him take his meds, the Celtics are not babysitters.

Here's my thoughts:
I am not going to comment unless true facts are given
I hate Von Wafer
Delonte and the gun thing lastyear makes me very wary of any issues
I dislike Von Wafer
If Wafer did bring up medication he deserved the punch
I wish Von Wafer wasn't on our team
If Delonte continually goes after Von in practice isn't it up to coaches to speak to team/seperate them/ end the foolishness
I don't like Von Wafer's attitude
I think we need delonte more than wafer but again what are the facts?  A healthy Bradley can help us.  And finally we don't need the attitude issues from either guy.  Danny & Doc if you can't get to the base issue don't hesistate to release both of them!

I agree with Bankshot. It is sad, but you have to do it.

I can't even believe the reactions I'm reading from people... you want to release Delonte or expect him to be released for THIS? Are you kidding me? This stuff happens all the time in pro sports. Competitors clash.

"Release him, Delonte is a nut bag." - Seriously? Not only is he one of our best bench players, but this honestly is nowhere near a good reason to release a player. Bill Walker got face to face with KG in camp too. Hell, KG has punched a teammate at practice.

It happens all the time, it just isn't always available for the media to blow up ("West has had multiple incidents with teammates already" - oh give me a break).

I think Danny and Doc are smart enough to not cut a guy just because he and the 3rd string two-guard got into a little scuffle after tempers flared up at practice.

I disagree.

I think fights in practice happen all the time.  If somebody throws a punch in the heat of the moment, it's all good, just hit showers and cool down.

But it seems like Wafer tried to cool down.  He was getting heated so he left.  He showered. He sat down at his locker.  Then Delonte came and punched him from behind.  I don't think those type of "fights" happen all the time.

In the heat of the moment, no biggie.
Way after the fact, not cool.

Couldn't agree more. I've had my share of "dust ups" in pick up games, yes including a few punches in my time, but this is different. If, in fact Wafer had time to go to the locker room, shower and dress, this should be more than ample time for West to regain his cool. Sorry, but if West in fact sucker punched the guy after having that much time to cool down, he has a serious problem. Maybe he does need to be on his meds. He has a history of mental disorder and apprently that includes violance which should not be tolarated. I won't be shocked if the the Celtics cut him, since he already suspended for carrying around guns.

Well, as tough as this is - we'll recover. If last season didn't break The Celtics, nothing will.

I wouldn't release Wafer, as much as I think he stinks, unless or until we find someone better.  He's done nothing wrong, except get under Delonte's skin. Delonte is the one that couldn't control himself, not Wafer.

To me, here is the bottom line.  If the C's were not planning on cutting Delonte if he had another issue such as this, they would have given him a guaranteed contract.  He is a quality NBA player, and his basketball skills deserved a guaranteed deal.  However, his erratic behavior forced him to come in on a probationary basis.  He is gone.

Hate to sound mean, but isn't it West's responsibility to take his meds? I mean I understand he had a disease, but as a grown up who know he has one, it's on him to make sure he takes his meds. It's not like the celtics are going to assign someone to despense them to him. Listen, I hope he starts taking them and gets better, but when he doesn't, it's not an excuse any more than someone who murders someone because they didn't take their meds. People go to jail all the time who have mental illness. He knows he has it, it's treatable. If, in fact he didn't chose to take his meds it's no ones fault but his. Sorry if I sound like a bad guy, but that's how I see it.

Kind of funny (well, not "ha ha" funny) that there's been so much talk about the chemistry in Miami and now this  :-\

Danny Ainge has confirmed the incident to Steve Bulpett, and said Delonte won't get cut :

Quote
Danny Ainge confirmed there was an altercation today between Delonte West and Von Wafer, but he denied there would be any repercussions.

A report on hoopsworld.com said Ainge was considering releasing West, but the Celtics’ director of basketball operations said there is absolutely no truth to that.

“There was something that happened, and we’re handling it internally,” Ainge said moments ago. “We’re happy with Delonte and Von and how they’ve been playing, and today was unacceptable.”

West and Wafer had recently had a verbal conflict on the court at the Celtics’ practice facility, and, according to the report, such was the case again today. This time, the players threw punches later in the dressing room.

The fight was broken up by other players, and coach Doc Rivers spoke to the two.

If West is released that would be a HUGE blow to the bench.  It's clear these two don't get along and no doubt one of them is going out the door.

Kind of ironic that if West was not suspended, most likely Wafer would not have made the cut, with the last spot going to Lasme.

From a purely basketball perspective I'd hate to see West go.  The C's are not going to be able to replace him with someone of equal caliber.  The articles mention had incidents with other players as well, so not really looking good for Delonte.

How would reactions change if the story instead was "Kevin Garnett tweaks knee separating West and Wafer, may not play tonight"?
