  • You know my methods, Watson.
i think it's time to ditch the "big baby" moniker he carries...

...it's like a built-in excuse for him to whine and sulk.  time for him to grow up and stop this nonsense.  my guess is that danny's already tiring of this and i wouldn't be surprised if danny's gauging interest...

Why?  Because you don't like it?  That's his nickname he grew up with, it's not going anywhere.  You know you don't have to call him Big Baby if you don't want to.

So you're cool with him acting like "Big Selfish" huh?  I think you just helped me find his new nickname...

Come on, this is the eve of a new season and he's ALREADY griping about his role.  It's uncalled for.  This team has a small window left (and after reading the Wizard's owners comments today regarding a hard cap, this will probably be the last season we see in a couple years).

Funny, but you focused on the nickname thing...that's the least of my concerns.  It's the fact that he ACTS like a big baby that bothers me.

I'm not cool with it, but I don't think that's the way he's acting.  That's your opinion.  Like I said, his nickname is Big Baby.  You're free to call him Glen if you want to. No big deal.

I don't understand why this is a big deal.  Baby is always running his mouth, that's just the way he is.  Never saw a microphone he didn't like.  Just ignore him. lol

Baby's gonna have to realize how to play with different players, that's just part of the game.  I agree with Doc that he should already know his role on this team, not necessarily how he's gonna play with the new guys, but that he needs to provide consistent defense, rebounding, and energy coming off the bench.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

And to make matters worse, today on PTI Kornheiser and Wilbon both gave 100% odds that Shaq and Nate will be "besties" by season's end.  So not only is Shaq going to steal Baby's PT, he's also going to steal his best friend.

The horror!

Baby actually should be happy about his new teammates. We replaced Sheed with JO, Shelden with Shaq and Scal with Erden for bigs. None of them is really a PF even though some will argue that JO can still play PF. All three are true centers.

The point is, Baby should be the first guy off the bench behind KG every nite at PF. Even when Perk comes back, I doubt we see JO lined up alongside Perk or Shaq very often and then for very short periods of time. Erden will not see the court much unless there is another injury, and then it will be at center not PF.

I would say that this pretty well should define Glen Davis role for this coming season. I think he is worried about playing time. He shouldnt be, all he has to do is provide energy, points, rebounding and defense off the bench like he has done the past 2 seasons. The playing time will be there if he does.

I really don't see Doc benching KG, Perk, JO or Shaq for the round mound of below average rebound, and I can't think of any team with a 5 man big rotation.

It's not as if Baby is a true PF either.  The guy defends centers better than he does PFs. I would pick JO everyday over him as a back-up 4.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Jevi posting a BBD topic.

Where's my popcorn?  :D

Anyways, like I said in the front page, I do notice how BBD's role has changed too. When he played inside last season, he was crucified because he was getting blocked often, and many people somehow decided to complain about his weight because of it (including in this topic...I mean really?).

If he plays outside more this season (which he probably will with Shaq along side him), he'll get more jumpshots, he may even fake out someone (key word is may), but if he really can make teams respect his 15 or so footer (or even shoot 3's), then that will probably be much better for him offensively than trying to go up against guys 2 inches taller than him every night in the paint.

I do look for him to put his money where his mouth is this season, and prove that he deserves more credit than he actually gets, cause let's face it, at the very least on CelticsBlog, he gets very little.

I really hope Baby finds another team where he'll be appreciated. I found Doc's words, in reply, extremely condescending and rude towards Baby. If this is how Baby always gets treated by his coach, it's time to move. BBD has been first man off the bench behind KG since he joined the team and has sacrificed his body and his dignity playing for people who don't appreciate him.
On another note, he is young, playing for one of the best teams in the NBA, and that just goes to show how valuable he's been, considering so many bench players here who rarely saw any playing time. He could easily be a starter for another team and needs to be to develop his game and yes, his role. He is wasting his valuable 10-15 year window of playing time in the NBA on a team where he is not allowed to develop.
I don't blame him at all for voicing his concerns. And I don't consider it whining - rather it is hoisting his flag up to let the coach and potential coaches know what's on his mind.

This isn't true at all. Scalabrine, Pollard, Posey, PJ Brown, Rasheed. and Powe all have been ahead of baby at various times.

They idea that a coach needs to handle a 4th year backup with kid's gloves when it comes to his role and playing time is ridiculous.

On another note, he is young, playing for one of the best teams in the NBA, and that just goes to show how valuable he's been, considering so many bench players here who rarely saw any playing time.
Maybe Baby should appreciate the opportunity he's getting as well?

I don't have a problem with Baby's griping, especially before the season. But the idea that Doc was out of line really concerns me. This is about the team and getting back to the Finals and winning, not Big Baby's development or role.

Sorry but this deserves a  ::).

Celtics appreciated him enough to draft him. Celtics appreciated enough to give him an extension. Celtics appreciated him enough to be the only remaining bench player since big3 era. Clearly this organization like Baby, or else he'd be gone by now. If he stopped whining so dam much, maybe Doc wouldn't brought the hammer down. Baby whines about everything. Celtics need soldiers not whiners.

My biggest problem with this story is it's the *only* bit of negativity coming from training camp.

Every time you see one of those silly twitter videos being posted, you see a loose, happy team.  Nate is happy, Shaq is happy, the Captain is happy, etc., etc.  The stories we read are uniformly positive, about Wafer, Delonte, etc.

The *only* stink being made is coming from BBD.  Why mess with team chemistry like that?  It's gratuitous and unnecessary.

He could easily be a starter for another team

Which Team? (Note: format = PF, PF/C, C)
Atlanta-No (Josh Smith/Horford)
Charlotte-No (Diaw, Thomas/Nazr)
Chicago-No (Boozer, Gibson/Noah)
Clebeland-No (Jameson, Hickson/Verejao)
Dallas-No (Dirk/Hayward, Chandler)
Denver-No (Harrington, Kenyon/Nene, Andersen)
Detroit-Small Chance (Villanueva, Maxiell, Jerebko/Ben Wallace)
Goledn State-No (Lee, Wright/Biedrins)
Houston-No (Scola, Hill/Ming, Brad Miller, Hayes)
Indiana-Decent to Probable (Hansbrough, McRoberts/Hibbert, Foster)
Clippers-No (Griffin, Craig Smith/Kaman)
Lakers-No (Ugh)
Memphis-No (Randolph, 50/50 with arthur/Gasol)
Miami-Probably not (Bosh, Haslem/Anthony, Ilgauskas)
Milwaukee-No (Gooden, Ilyasova, Mbah Moute/Bogut)
Minnesota-Probably not (Love, Beasley/Darko)
New Jersey-No (Murphy, Favors/Lopez)
New Orleans-No (West/Okafor)
New York-No (Amare, Randolph/Turiaf)
OKC-No (Green/Krstic, Ibaka)
Orlando-No (Lewis, Anderson, Bass/Howard, Gortat)
Philly-No (Brand, Young/Speights
Phoenix-Miniscule chance (Frye, Warrick/Lopez
Portland-No (Aldridge/Camby, Oden, Przybilla)
Sacramento-No (Landry, Thompson/Dalembert, Cousins)
San Antonio-No (Duncan, Blair/McDyess, Splitter)
Toronto-Probably should (though Toronto has to justify the Amir contract, so realistically maybe not!) (Amir, Evans/Bargnani)
Utah-No (Milsap, Jefferson/Okur)
Washingon-No (Blatche/McGee)

So really, I see no teams that would actively trade anything of value to get him to be their starter, and even as a free pickup, barring injury, I can count on one hand the teams where there's a SMALL chance MIGHT start if given a totally fair shot at the job. That number shrinks if you consider playing style (remove New York and maybe Phoenix from that chance) and consider young teams developing more upside players (Washington, Minny). Indiana and Detroit he'd have a small chance; Toronto decent.
