He's a bum. We would have traded him already if he had any value whatsoever. He doesn't. Everyone else realizes he's a bum.
A bum that stepped up big time in the playoffs in KG's absence, hit a playoffs game winner in a decisive game (and the previous clutch shot) as a sophomore, and who has a tendency to step up his game when the pressure is at its peek and the game really important (he also contributed a lot to winning game 4 of the Finals a few months ago.
At the same time, he came up pretty small in Games 5 through 7. He had six combined points in 51 minutes over those games, when we desparately needed a scoring boost.
All players have slumps, and BBD is no exception. I think the reputation he has of 'always coming up big' is anecdotal and undeserved.
Yeah, Baby is inconsistent, it's one of his biggest flaws, but at the same time he is a bench player so it's OK. I don't think the reputation of "always coming up big" is undeserved. What I mean by that is that game 4 was definitely a must-win, if we lost it the Finals were over going back to L.A. He came through at an unexpected time, in the 3rd and 4th quarters and led the 2nd unit (and the team) to a win when the game was still undecided.
Sure, he was transparent in game 5 (but not needed because the starting 5 was doing fine), game 6 (not a "must-win") and game 7 (we sure could have used his offense, frankly I don't remember what he did in this game, he didn't play much probably because he played bad, yeah).
I'm not trying to make Baby what he is not (i.e a "star") but I find it pretty much absurd to call him a "bum". He is inconsistent and does not always perform at the level we would want him to, and he can be a black hole on offense, but you can't deny he comes through in big games. And he usually responds when he is asked to raise his level. By big game I think more of must-win games or games where he makes an impact in decisive moments : like game 2 of the Miami series when KG was out, he did a superb job replacing him, or games 4 and 5 of the Cleveland series where he sealed both victories in the 4th quarter with critical 2+1 plays).
