Enough, guys.  Please stop the bickering.  Let's start the season off right, by focusing on what's important (the team) and letting the less important stuff go (e.g., perceived slights).

On topic, I think Baby griping about his role is just an annual fall tradition at this point.  But I don't completely blame him - 2 years ago we wanted him to fill KG's role after he got hurt, and last year we wanted him to be more of a Leon Powe-type.  This year, we've got so many options up front that I don't have the foggiest what we're expecting from Glen.

Either way, I'm pretty sure this is our last year with BBD, so we probably won't have to worry about it long-term.

Well said though carot farming jokes are a lot more exceptable than questioning ones fan hood. Even if only perceived.

But I tend to agree here. Davis is in his last year with the Celtics. I think he will probably be traded by the All Star break. Though I'm still a little unsure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. I guess it really depends on who he brings here or how high the pick may be we get for him. But if he nets us a good backup sf I will be forever greatful of his talents and time here.

Baby needs to get a grip.  Even after his fairly impressive play in the '09 run, teams weren't buying that he could be a starter.  That's why after all his talk about big money and not feeling wanted by the C's, he came crawling back for $3 million a year.  That's less than what Nate got this summer, and he's a 5-8 shooting guard with a checkered past.

While I like what he brings to the table, he needs to realize that he's likely a career backup and is going to have to deal with stuff like this his whole career.

There is a reason the celtics continue to bring in bigs...davis isn't that good.  He's a career bench big, 1st off bench at best for pf spot.  He brings great energy to the team but I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded for a sf.  I feel danny has tried to move him in the past but other teams see that a 6'6" pf with Davis' game isn't that in demand out there.  I wouldn't be surprised to see ol luke produce and get those minutes.  Davis & Robinson for Battier!

No, they bring in other bigs because Davis is undersized and has disadvantages against a lot of starters, that's why he's a bench player, but they don't bring in other bigs because he's "not that good".  They've been bringing in seasoned vets for playoff runs because Davis is undersized and young.

I was just thinking about Battier too.  Only problem is that he's expiring himself this year, so BBD's expiring deal isn't really enticing to the Rockets.  So it'd have to be a deal that appeals on talent alone.  And I'm not sure they want to trade one of the better wing defenders in the league for a 6-6 power forward and a 5-8 shooting guard who makes 9 million over the next two years.

We may have to throw in a pick or Bradley (a former Longhorn), which I'm OK with as long as we win #18.

I'm a big fan of Baby...he is just that though..a Baby. And sometimes, babies throw tantrums.

But in his defense...who are we going to get in his stead? A late 1st draft pick?(best case) An equally flawed player?

Better the Baby you know than the castoff you don't.

Well, however we all took his comments - the point I think is that Glen Davis is still very valuable to us, and will be for most (if not all) of this season.

His comments did not make him look good, of course, but I saw it more as a competitive thing for him. He's an emotional guy.

He'll be fine.

I say give him one or two games into the season, and we'll forget about this thread. Glen has came up big for us a few times over the years:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e8QHkkoQ0c

Does he have faults? Sure. Did he adequately replace KG when he went down in 09? No player in the NBA can replace Kevin Garnett. But to me he's a keeper, and if we do trade him I hope we can get back equal value for him.

Sure - JO gives us more than Glen - ability wise and length-wise. But the fact of the matter is that we need Glen Davis this year, and to be honest with everyone here I don't see who we could realistically pick up at the trade deadline for him as a replacement.

We only have four Bigs until Perk gets back (IF he gets back).

In a perfect world, Perk will come back in Feb, be serviceable, and allow JO to go to the bench. I'd assume such a move would then allow JO to be primary sub for KG, and split some minutes at center along with Shaq.

My last para is the perfect world scenario, and this would make Glen the 5th big. But for right now (and most of this season), Glen Davis is KG's sub, and has proven to be rather reliable in that role.

Sure I'd rather Glen just play and not allow himself to be commented on like this, but this is who he is - he's an emotional player.

I can see where Baby is coming from. He was told to play completely differently last season than the year before. The year before he was told to take midrange jumpers. Last year, he was told to work inside while Rasheed stayed on the perimeter.

This year, it would seem he would need to bring back his midrange jumper which he almost never used last season.

At least he does what he is told to do. How many players refuse to make the drastic changes that he has done? I am not a fan for griping to the press, but Baby likes to talk freely to the press and that is often a result.

Doc did a great job deflecting.

I think this is the part that we're not talking about. Doc handled that like a champ. Sometimes Baby needs to be told "shut up", but Doc didn't demean his value as a player.

He didn't even say what Baby's role was, which it is implied that he is a valuable energy guy. I think the reason why that is important is because a positive way to read that is "Baby, this is silly, you know you have a role, and an important one..but if you don't get that than you might as well go back to the bench."

This is all about BBD's next contract and I get the feeling that this was planned.  It's all about minutes and he's probably hoping to gain some, not lose any with JO coming aboard.

The C's see him as an undersized 4 with short arms who can be a liability at times -- but with a nice knack for coming up huge at playoff time.

Glen I'm sure will be very available this coming off season for any team that wants to pay him starter money.  The Celtics will not.

He's a bum.  We would have traded him already if he had any value whatsoever.  He doesn't.  Everyone else realizes he's a bum.
