Well, my Detroit, team of the future, is not weak in the frontcourt.

It just needs a little more time to improve.
I like your Detroit futures team. Definitely one of the top one's not to make the playoffs.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Portland:

Ricky Rubio / Goran Dragic
Evan Turner
Thadeus Young
Derrick Favors / Spencer Haweso
Brook Lopez

I have huge expectations for Favors & Rubio, so I'm biased on this one.

Turner's the one I really like but I do agree that's a great team of the future to consider.

Also the fact that Avery Johnson is taking Favors off the table in the Melo trade makes me think maybe Favors is going to get more than ample PT in NJ this season.

I wonder if that's coach speak / the organization trying to save face.  Reports came out that Carmelo wouldn't sign in New Jersey.  The next day reports come out that Favors isn't being offered?  Sounds suspicious.

Also, Avery Johnson is crazy, saying that Favors compares favorably to KG and Duncan.  Nothing like putting unrealistic expectations on a kid.

I can agree with a lot of that.

BTW, i've made myself clear a couple times but I think this hands down goes to Portland, and I don't think I can be convinced elsewise.

Rubio may never come to the states.

Rodriguez is looking to leave the states if he can't get a bigger role (not on that team)

And the team that drafted Favors to play next to Lopez has already agreed on a trade that gets rid of him, only to be rejected by the team that would have received him.

Detroit still has the 20 and 10 guy.  You know, what they hope Favors can develop into.

Truth be told, my better pitch will come later in the season once games are played.

 ;)

This is a pretty onesided way of presenting this; you're listing him as if he's expendible. He was the key part of a trade that nearly, and still could, land them Carmelo Anthony.

He's a big athletic player, who's skillset is pretty vast already. He's shown flashes of a tremendous post game, and already has a pretty nice touch.

Ricky Rubio hasn't come to the states, but stood toe to toe with Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Team USA a year ago in the Olympics. It's one game, but that in itself was quite impressive.

I think Wall, Azubuike, Marv Williams, Al Jefe, and Hibbert is the better starting 5, and an immediate bench of Gordon, ANdersen, Bibby with Sanders, Babbit, and Seraphin going forward as projects is very strong.

I think that Rubio and Turner are the better backcourt, but I see Wall being the better player over Rubio. Turner is just a better overall player than Gordon or Azubuike, but probably not the defender Azubuike is, or the scorer Gordon is.

Thad Young shouldn't be looked at as a full time power forward, and Luke Walton's health problems are starting to derail his career.

Brook Lopez is the best player on either team, but Al Jefferson and Roy Hibbert is the much stronger FC now. Portland has a higher ceiling..but it comes down to whether or not you think that Derrick Favors will actually turn out as a player...whether he'll be better than Al Jefferson.

It also comes down to whether or not you think Al Jefferson will ever regain his 23 and 11 previous form.

I guess I just never see Al Jefferson and Roy Hibbert complimenting eachother. And I kinda feel like their skillsets are a mismatch with Wall's.

I agree with Thad Young, I'm not much of a fan. At best, he's a bench-energy guy IMO.

I just think Portland assembled a great young team that compliments eachother very well. Like I said, I'm biased because I'm extremely high on Favors and have hight hopes for Rubio.

Of course it is one sided.

Do you know who also was a great PG internationally?  Carlos Arroyo.

Do you know who was a terrible fit?  Rondo and Jennings.

There is a difference playing the two games.  Rubio (if he ever does come) still has a lot to prove on whether or not he can play in the NBA.

The same argument holds true for Wall.

You know who was amazing college PG? Ed Cota

You know who wasn't that great? Rondo

At the very least, regardless of the setting, for ONE game Rubio showed that he's capable of hanging with the league's best point guards. Something Wall has yet to do.

At the end of the day, I'd never argue that Rubio is the more sure thing. But I don't think the difference between Wall and Rubio makes up the gap between where I think your team and Portlands team would be in 5 years.
