Why?

If the GM decides to leave and not defend his team in the playoffs why should the commissioner's office defend his team for the playoff's? I understand the commissioner's office taking over teams during the draft while selecting players to keep a competitive balance but why should a team who's GM made all his selections and made trades be defended by the commissioner's office during the playoffs if the GM makes himself scarce?

I mean, if I'm not a good debater and I think that  I couldn't defend my team that well wouldn't it behoove me to decide to disappear if I know either Roy or Fafnir are going to defend my team given that they are two of the better debaters on this blog site?

Ohio made his team and got selected into the playoffs. I think it fair for him to show up and defend his team or suffer the consequences. The integrity of the draft is over. These are the playoffs now and the commissioner's office should be counting votes, not trying to keep a competitive balance anymore.

Yeah, but its boring without the debate.

I highly doubt anyone thought, "I suck at debating, I should just abandon the draft. Everyone will think I'm a jerk, but then at least my team might win because Roy or Fafnir would be defending it!"

From your end, I can see why you'd advocate a free pass, but I got the number 1 seed, and I still have to plead my case. Why should you get lucky just because Ohio quit?

Nobody gets free passes. Right?

No free passes, correct.

But I don't think there should be an assigned defender of a team.  I just say that random posters chime in on why they think an undefended team could match up well or beat their opponent.

That will effectively be a free pass. Trust me, Nick will have about 3-4 pages worth of material ready. without a co-ordinated defense he'll just walk on.

The draft isn't over when players are done being picked, the draft is the entire process voting and all.

Its not fair to leave a team without an advocate if they're going to be in the playoffs. If I was going to leave them without someone to argue their side in all fairness we'd have to push them out of the playoffs.

Question: New York won the Atlantic and hence the fourth place seeding and yet did not do a press conference. Are they still eligible to make the playoffs? And if not, do the Boxers get a free pass into the semis or do I have to play the second place Atlantic division team?
They weren't eligible to vote Nick, they still made the playoffs and you still have to survive a vote against them.

The Commish's office is probably going to have to take over breaking down matchups from the Knicks perspective though.

Agreed.  What happens if two commish defended teams advance to play eachother?  Is that what we want?

I think random people can step in and talk up why they might vote an undefended team (commishes included), but I don't think that the commishes should take the responsibility upon themselves to try to convince cbers to vote for a team.  Good, healthy discussion about a potential fantasy matchup is nice, but I don't think anyone should be responsible for taking over a team's defense.
How many absent owners do we have in the playoffs?

Right now I just count one, so that's not a concern.

Hey, you guys have been great commishes.  Whatever you think is best for the league, I'm on board with.  Was just chiming in my 2 cents.  I really don't care much either way.

I think a case could be made for taking non-press conferencing GMs off the ballots, but we didn't. So pushing them out of the playoffs doesn't work and leaving them without someone making the case doesn't either.

I am going to try and get Ohio Celtics Fan to do it of course, but he hasn't been on in 6 days.

This is the second time you are going to rule against my team quoting fairness and yet you allowed some of the most unfair trades to occur and because of it strengthened teams that are in the playoffs or maybe even made the playoffs because of those trades.

This team's owner has the opportunity to show up and defend the team he put together. He has his shot at being treated fairly, all he has to do is show up. If he doesn't show up to defend his team the only thing you are doing is being more than fair to his team and unfair to mine.

Or let the blog and those that believe in his team defend his team. The commissioner's office will only be unfairly effecting the possible outcome by doing what you are proposing.

I think absentee owners should not be represented by the commish's office either in the playoffs or in the team of the future vote.

If a owner doesnt show up and defend their team,my vote will automatically being going against that team I dont think its fair to other GM's who have invested significant portions of their time as opposed to those who havent and wont be invited back next year.

Just my opinion though.

In the interest of keeping this civil, stop this kinda stuff, please. That's not me as a mod asking, its me as a player in the game. Honestly, nobody cares about what trades did or did not happen at this point anymore than anyone cares who I picked at 13(30). We're beyond that, and its quite irrelevant now.

And I would counter that just because the teams' owner decided to quit on his squad and change the landscape of the game, that doesn't mean you should just get a free pass. Either someone should be appointed to defend the team or another team should be pushed ahead.

Fafnir is the commish. His game, his rules. That's part of the deal when you sign up.

Besides Nick, I highly doubt it will amount to more than 1 or 2 posts on his part. I'd bet you'll get more challenges from me than you will from fafnir.

I thought he was mocking the post by Nick who is clearly upset by a decision.  I may be wrong.  I just dont think it helps the situation or adds anything
