7th?  I don't know about that.  Does having a 10.49 variance mean all the dumb voters canceled out all the smart voters for me?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think it was Ben Wallace, Yi Jianlian, and Vlad Rad in a conference with Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, and Pau Gasol.

I don't think you mean it too seriously, but please don't call others "dumb".  It's not going to lead to good feelings in here.  Let's just chalk it up to a legitimate difference of opinion.

There are lots of ballots that I thought were wrong, but just as many people probably thought my ballot was.  It's best not too take it too personally (something that lots of folks, including myself, probably did last year).

It means that people had widely varied views on your team that's all.

Utah also had a very high variance for a top team. I thought people would find it interesting. You can see the excel sheet later this weekend for details.

I went 16 for 16 on picking playoff teams. Every one of my playoffs picks made the playoffs.

Just want to say congrats to all those that made the playoffs and awesome jobs to all those that didn't.

The Boxers look forward to facing the New York Knicks and with a little luck facing those dreaded Bulls and their lack of depth in the semis.

 ;D

SOUTHEAST RULES!!!! 4 PLAYOFF TEAMS WHILE HAVING THE 2ND LOWEST AVERAGE 1ST ROUND PICK OF THE 6 DIVISIONS!!!

Average pick per division

Central - 10.2
Pacific - 16.4
Southwest - 17.0
Northwest - 17.4
Southeast - 17.8
Atlantic - 18.2

Hey the Boxers finished 4th in the East and look at their variance. People just see things differently. Some take injuries into a major consideration. Others have certain players they absolutely love and absolutely hate. Still others are going to give the benefit of the doubt to defensive teams and others to offensive teams. I think teams with huge name superstars get special treatment and, lastly, I absolutely believe people severely penalize teams for who their GM is regardless of the team.

It's a mixed bag and you do the best during the draft and take the results as they come. I mean at least this year the idiocy that occurred last year with  a voter purposely trying to tank a team and all the stuff that happened controversy it caused at the end of the regular season voting is gone.

The two highest variances made the playoffs! The Supercats and the Clippers, people love to hate us or hate to love us.

That or we're just too good for some people to comprehend.

Personally I think there are four main issues that cause large variance.

1. Your team has players that have a perception of being injury prone

2. Some of your main players are known as offensive players that have bad defensive reputations

3. Your most important players are older. Voters in this game love youth for some reason though youth never wins championships in real life. Go figure.

4. You have severe depth problems.

Sometimes it doesn't matter the quality of players or talent you have, if you have one of the above situations you will have a wide variety of opinions on your team.

I think teams with huge name superstars get special treatment and, lastly, I absolutely believe people severely penalize teams for who their GM is regardless of the team.

I think teams with superstars win games.

2010 Conference Finals Teams: Boston (we know who plays for Boston, but KG is still one of the most recognizable people in the NBA), Orlando (Howard), LA (Kobe, Gasol), Phoenix (Nash, Stoudemire)

2009 Conference Finals Teams: Orlando (Howard), Cleveland (James), LA (Kobe), Denver (Melo, Billups)

2008 Conference Finals: Detroit (maybe the one non-superstar team), Boston, San An (Duncan), LA (Kobe)

2007 Conference Finals: San An (Duncan), Utah (Williams), Cleveland (James), Detroit

That's going back 4 years. You say teams with stars are getting preferential treatment, but Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Paul Pierce\Ray Allen (on the same team!) are all out of the playoffs. Where is their preferential treatment?

Now if you'd said  "LeBron James, Dywane Wade, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard all got preferential treatment", I would let it slide, because at least one of those 4 guys has been in the conference finals for the past 4 seasons. They should get preferential treatment, they've been leading teams deep into the playoffs for years.

As far as the GM thing, I think people can bear grudges, or try to strategically 'spike' ballots one way or the other, but those tactics are usually pretty transparent. Basically the same guys that have been low on your team from the end of the draft and through the pressers are going to be low on it come voting time.

For instance, Nick..you've been pretty down on my boys. I'd be interested to see where you ranked Chicago. I'm guessing.......4th? Maybe 5th on the outside?
