The Magic have one of the finest playmaking wings in the league in Joe Johnson and another good playmaker in Vince Carter + a good passing combo-forward in Kirilenko.
The burden on the point guard to be a creative passer is minimal.
Someone like Jason Terry who is a good setup guard and a very efficient shooter is an excellent fit.
Thanks, Who. I think that Terry is the best fit alongside that starting 5, who don't necessarily need a pure point to be effective. Lawson's status as a change of pace guy is much more effective off the bench, similar to how he was used in Denver last year, although with a larger role for this fake team.
In situations that call for a steady hand and play-caller, Lawson will be there, no doubt. This extends to late game and postseason situations as well, though I will be the first to point out that Terry's experience gives him an edge here. However, Lawson, a NCAA National Champion, shines under pressure as well. All things considered, it's probably 24 mins apiece for Lawson/Terry at the point, with Terry picking up 6 or so minutes at SG alongside Ty.
Lawson is young, but steady and willing to learn under a guy like Terry - and since Lawson has such nice pure point instincts, I don't have to worry about him getting caught up in a shoot-first role. We've got the guys to generate the offense as well as a few different players who can set the table.
My votes will be coming in soon, Faf.
