Jammer Nelson, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, David Lee, Kendrick Perkins

Boston minus Rondo and KG.

Can you build a bench strong enough to overcome those downgrades?

For me its not THAT of a downgrade
Lee will fight for rebounds more than KG at this point
of course hes a lost in quality but not a total lost
and Jammer if not close at rondo is an all star
Bench will come
I think we can manage to make even a stronger bench over the
one that make Boston champion

I am looking at the downgrade in defense.

mmm.. interesting we will lose the most at pg
and there I think we can cover it soon
This team will be a joy to analyze when over

Detroit
-Guards: John Wall, Ben Gordon
-Forwards: Al Jefferson, Marvin Williams
-Centers: Roy Hibbert

I dont think you could have started with a more inept defensive starting 5.

Gordon is a matador on defense, Jeffersons defensive inefficiencies are still evident, Hibbert is too weak to handle good centers (like Bogut).

Wall and Williams are adequate defenders.

Your team also gets killed on the boards.

Offensively they are solid, but what energy on that end will they have after getting pounded defensively.

I'd be looking to move Big Al for more of a defensive minded/rebounding 4.

Perk is available. :P

I agree with a lot of what lucky said beyond "boom or bust".

None of these guys are busts. Marvin Williams might be invisible, but he's shown himself to be a viable piece on a very good team. He's not an elite player, but he's an okay option on team with 3 potential 20pt scorers.

Gordon, an established scorer. Can't knock it. Hibbert...meh. He's a starting caliber center.

Wall is as "can't miss" a prospect as this year's draft had to offer. When you factor in the success of recent pg's with his physical skills, Wall is a pretty safe bet to be an elite PG in a few years.

Jefferson to me doesn't have much to prove on the offensive side of the ball. He only has to prove that he can defend, and he can learn how to win.

So boom or bust I don't see. None of these guys can bust, with the unlikely exception of Wall.

The team might not win initially, but they'll be given years to figure out if they boom or bust.

I would also like to extend my condolences to Kirk Hinrich and Serge Ibaka because someone else picked you guys before I could. So very, very sorry boys.

Hmmmm.  I agree with what I've read from many posters so far.  I originally thought this team would be about 41-46 wins.  Then I thought, this team would probably compare well to the '08-'09 Bulls.  They both have Gordon at SG.  Similar but slightly inferior pg at the moment in Wall.  Williams is similar to Deng.  Combo of Big Al + Hibbert are slightly better than Ty Thomas + Noah.  So I'd say these two teams will have similar records, hence, 41 wins.  I don't see anyone who steps up in the playoffs for this squad.  Gordon could once in a while, but not often enough to carry this team through.

Prognosis:  41 wins, early playoff exit

Jameer < Rondo.  Lee < KG.  Rest are Celtics and Perk is injured.  So, I'll take 6 wins away from the last season's celtics.  But Celtics had a weak bench last season.  If you can construct a better bench than the celts, you gain more wins back.  But I still like this team has having 2 very good rebounders, a rock C defender, 2 shooters and scorers, and a pg who can shoot plus run an offense.

Prognosis:  44 wins, makes it to either conference finals or conference semi's.  A lot depends on the bench with two aging wings and an injured center.
