This has kind of become one of those topics were both sides are as far away from each other as possible and nobody wants to really given an inch. It kind of reminds me of some of the Shaq threads before he signed with us. I think a nine page thread on a guy with no connection to the celtics and no official rumor or signing with a team speaks volumes about how controversial and polarizing a figure Iverson is. I really hope that he signs somewhere so that we can talk about him all season long :). Maybe we can get an iverson thread stickied!

You think that's bad?

Imagine if he somehow ended up here in Green.
Well apparently that would make you and I 2 of the more unpopular posters but at least we can give each other tommy points.

That's all good. Lord knows I'm not trying to make enemies here, but that's how I feel about the AI issue.

I agree with what LB3533 said... why would Iverson come off the bench if he thinks and knows that he can play better than the person he is suppose to be backing up? If someone at your job gets the promotion that you went for and you know that you're better at the job then them you're going to keep quiet? HAHA! Get real!

Flawed argument.  First of all, you could make an argument that Iverson is a better player than either Mayo or Conley.  But is he going to help the team win more than them?  Somewhere between probably and absolutely not.  He scores a bunch, stagnates the offense, and plays no defense.  He's not willing to accept the only role which he could really help a team....As instant offense off the bench.

If someone at your job gets the promotion that you want and you know that you're better at the job are you going to keep quiet?   Probably not.  But you're not going to undermine the entire organization if you want to get a job elsewhere....

Which is exactly why Iverson can't find a job now.

I want to know what Grizzlies and winning have anything to do with each other....that's the first thing.

The second thing is, did you see the games when Iverson came off the bench for the Grizzlies????

They lost all 3 games and they weren't close.

If they won those games and AI was still Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.in....OK you have a point then.

But they fricking lost by double figures!!!!

Of course AI is going to open his mouth.....

...Or that he disregards defense in any capacity, his team's offense, coaching, management, the league, etc etc etc.

Iverson, who complained about his role after playing sparingly off the bench in Memphis’ game against Sacramento on Monday, scored six points during a 17-0 Memphis run in the first half. The Grizzlies used that burst and a 21-9 edge in rebounding to take a 13-point lead in the first quarter but let it slip away when the Warriors made a strong surge in the second period.

“Not a lot of players like to play defense (but) winning teams play defense,” Iverson said. “Some nights you’re not going to be able to throw a rock in the ocean but if you still play defense you give yourself a chance to win.”

And this comes out of the mouth of the one who supposedly doesn't play defense.

Thanks for post, LB3533. I had not known of this before. When AI does say the right things in the media, it is sad how they somehow get overlooked.

So this is now TWO media outlets that have neutral info on AI - Sports Illustrated and now Yahoo.

But not ESPN. Unless it's negative.

I don't know where the notion that Iverson didn't play defense.

Was he small? Yes

Did he not try off the court? Yes

Did he give it his all on the court? Hell yes.

Active Career Steals

1. Jason Kidd
2. Allen Iverson
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Kevin Garnett!
5. Shawn Marion

7. Ron Artest
8. Paul Pierce!
9. Ben Wallace

11. Ray Allen!

Of course, steals doesn't measure the "be all, end all" of defense.

But if you look at those names on that list....those are all very reputable defenders in someways.

You cannot tell me that is a list of "non-defenders" in the NBA.

Thank you for drowning the hatred with stats. My question would be for all the people that call Iverson a stat padder or chucker, how could he possibly pad his efficiency rating and defensive rating? He must be an amazing mathemetician....TP btw

Well, the career defensive win shares is skewed toward players who have played a long time for good teams, which Iverson has (despite people calling him a "loser" his teams are over .500 for his career even though he generally had little help).  Defensive win shares per season would be a bit more useful.  But those stats are surprising.

I still don't think Iverson is being blackballed by anybody - the reason he doesn't have a team is that no team has wanted him up to this point.  He'll stick somewhere if he can play the role that's asked of him, but the key to continuing his career is if he can adjust to seeing the team as bigger than himself, instead of the other way around.

I love AI, and would have loved to add him if Nate wasn't sign. Too bad. No room for Delonte, let alone Ai..

But on another note on AI, just to prove the negativity that follows him(even on video games)
In association on 2k10, the Twolves signed him on Halloween, and same day put him on the trading block.
I almost died laughing
Then the day after that, AI was asking for a contract extension.
hahahahahahaha
Can't stop, Rondo!

I actually don't think AI is being black balled by the NBA or Stern.

I support AI, but he didn't do himself any favors with last year's fiasco of a season.

No team right now wants to give him a chance. No team wants to put up with the circus that would be the "AI Show".

If AI could be a "good soldier", the same way Ron Artest is with the Lakers...I don't see why he couldn't be on an NBA squad tomorrow.

My guess here is you guys would probably have given OJ Simpson another chance and even let him date you daughter or sister or mom, because, after all, he said he didn't do it and everyone can change. ::)

Wow a lot of people around here kissing AI's butt! I couldn't care less if he's in the league next season. The guy is a jerk and always has been. He never cared about winning. The only thing he ever cared about were his own stats!
