Carmelo Anthony + Monta Ellis give the Cavs a very effective 1-2 punch offensively. Surround them with some shooters, defenders and rebounders and you'll have a very good team on your hands. The third option here need only be a 12-14ppg guy due to Monta's + Melo's prolific scoring.
That basically gives you the Allen Iverson Nuggets, doesn't it?
Similar ... pretty much identical if you use Monta as a shooting guard (which is the main reason the Cavs shouldn't use him there).
However, if you use Monta as a point guard, you should be able to build a squad with enough defense + rebounding to build a legitimate contender around them.
It won't be the most efficient offense in the league but Monta + Melo can create mismatches against nearly any opposite number in the league. So they will be able to score well enough against top defensive teams in the playoffs to give themselves a a chance.
I think the best unmentioned part of this conversation is Jason Thompson, he would fit in perfect on a squad like this as well as Pryzbila()if healthy) neither of these two need the ball and are great rebounders and Thompson can avg a double double. I do however need to get a bench and another Center!
I like the Joel Przybilla part of the equation.
Not wild about Jason Thompson though. I like what he does for your team offensively and he is a solid rebounder but he's doesn't know how to play any defense yet. Probably a year or two away from becoming a mediocre defender nevermind a good one. He lacks a lot of knowledge and recognition of what he should be doing. Long term, I wouldn't be concerned about it but it'll take some time to correct.
Also, Przybilla generally only plays in the mid 20s minutes wise and cannot play much over the 30 minute mark. So if you pencil him in for 30 minutes you still have 66 big man minutes to fill where, as of now, you have no defensive presence.
Joel Przybilla is a nice start but your big man rotation still has a lot of work to do.
