Other thing I like this this creates a huge matchup problem for Miami. The C's could now pound them inside.

agreed. Also, assuming Bynum is healthy come playoff time, we need to add someone like Shaq to compete with LA.

We'd have to toss in the first probably to get them to play along.

Maybe, instead of throwing in a first, we should just tell their owner that anything he does to help the Celts this year will hurt the Heat's chances in the playoffs.

Seconded - he's got a guarantee to live up to, after all. :)

I hate SHAQ,but i hate the Miami Heat even More!!!...I just need him to throw his weight around and hammer anyone coming down that lane. I hope Chris Bosh a personal massage therapists, because he's about to take a physical pounding in the post. Bosh is soft ans likes to float on the perimeter. The addidtion of SHAQ will allow us to get into the penalty earlier in quarters. I love the fact were going to be a pain in Miami's side for a while.

Here is hoping for the vet min.

There would be plenty of beef to throw out at teams.

If there's talk of Shaq and the C's being "close" to a deal, that's gotta mean it's not for the vet min, cause I don't see much to be negotiated in a minimum contract, and I don't see Shaq taking the minimum anyway.

Seems more likely we're discussing a sign-and-trade with Cleveland, either for Sheed's deal (hope we get something else with it) or for Baby (hope we don't do this).

Yup its got to be a sign and trade... otherwise why the delay?

I too am worried about Davis and possibly Perkins, if there si something multi player happening.

Main part most of us probably want to see:
Quote
The Celtics, the source said, have told O'Neal that he has to come off the bench next season, and that O'Neal said he could accept a reserve role for the first time in his career.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I like it, he'll be much more effective off the bench anyways.

I believe that Cle is under the cap so they can take back Sheed and something and just send Shaq signed at something reasonable like say $3M or $4M (heck, didn't Chris Duhon get $4M?).

It is the "and something" that has me worried.  Hopefully Cle is playing nice and it is a second rounder or maybe Erden and not a first rounder or Bradley.

as far as the KVH thing goes, this what what i could find

"The 6-foot-10 forward, who hasn't played since the 2006 playoffs with the Mavericks, accepted an offer of $4.3 million just to be a pawn in the big Jason Kidd trade. All the 32-year-old Van Horn has to do in return is pull up those knee socks again and sit on the bench for a month with the Nets."

more in the article -

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/marty_burns/02/19/van.horn/

Okay, thanks.  I see that you *can* include other players with the signed and traded guy:

Quote
The details: Kidd, forward Malik Allen and swingman Antoine Wright are sent to Dallas for 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, swingman Trenton Hassell, guard Maurice Ager, Van Horn via sign-and-trade, first-round draft picks this June and in 2010 and $3 million in cash.

From Brian Windhorst....Not sure how reliable this is but just passing it along.

So if Shaq goes to Boston, it is likely going to be on a veteran's minimum contract of $1.4 million.

I hope so.  Would leave the Wallace contract as a big trade chip going forward.

Huh - he also says no S+T.  Windhorst is usually solid, but I wonder what there is to negotiate if it's a vet min deal.  Be great if it was true though; Sheed's contract would be a very strong trade chip moving forward.

Why not start him until (if and when?) Perkins gets back if that will make him feel better?  I actually think he will respond better the more of the big guns he is on the court with whereas Jermaine may like being featured more with the second unit.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I love this! Now that's serious front-court depth when Perk comes back!
