If there's talk of Shaq and the C's being "close" to a deal, that's gotta mean it's not for the vet min, cause I don't see much to be negotiated in a minimum contract, and I don't see Shaq taking the minimum anyway.

Seems more likely we're discussing a sign-and-trade with Cleveland, either for Sheed's deal (hope we get something else with it) or for Baby (hope we don't do this).
Good point.  I don't think Baby would be included.  I'd guess Sheed's contract and a first for Shaq and Moon or Parker.  We'd have to toss in the first probably to get them to play along.

I love times like this when I look at the top of the thread and see like 100 other posters names up there.  Times like this really bring out the community feel for me.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Now we would have 2 FAT CATS And 2 RODENTS with Shaq, Big Baby, Rondo and Nate Robinson.

If its for a sign and trade with Sheed I'll be very interested in the money, and if we can pry another useful player from Cleveland.

Hope we don't have to toss in a first - Cleveland might be looking to cut salary since it's not like they were gonna hang on to Shaq under any circumstances.  I do hope we get Moon or Parker, though after how they played against us in the playoffs maybe we should be careful what we wish for.

Have to wait and see I guess.

The more I think about this, I'm warming up to it...at least a bit.  The biggest beneficiary of Shaq would be KG because teams would have to respect Shaq in the low post.  They weren't guarding Perk in the playoffs last year.

This opens up at lot of things offensively for KG.  Plus he won't have to rebound.

as far as the KVH thing goes, this what what i could find

"The 6-foot-10 forward, who hasn't played since the 2006 playoffs with the Mavericks, accepted an offer of $4.3 million just to be a pawn in the big Jason Kidd trade. All the 32-year-old Van Horn has to do in return is pull up those knee socks again and sit on the bench for a month with the Nets."

I'd be very happy with Shaq and Moon coming back.

I don't think I'd give up a first round pick for that package however.

Does a sign and trade guy have to be shipped out alone?
I've wondered about that too, and never received an answer.  Even checked Coon's site, but didn't see anything there either.

Don't believe so. As you'll recall, Keith Van Horn was signed and traded out of retirement as part of a multiple team deal. What I can't figure out is the three year minimum - Van Horn wasn't signed for 3 years, so why would Shaq have to be.
But was Van Horn traded with another player from his same team?

Yep:

per the_bird, sounds like they got around it my making only the first year guaranteed. so with shaq it could be -- for example -- a player option for the second year, then a team option for the third.

What more could the big 3 ask Angie for this offseason..? He got the gang back together, added a solid vet, top 15 talented rookie, and Shaq? Like I said before his presence will light a HUGE fire under the big 3, they need his funny personality, and jokes, which is what I remember most about the big 3 their first season but it seemed to diminish.... Superman, Kryptonite(Donkey), Shrek, as a potential 2nd unit is great!

This is going to be the move that puts us over the top.  We can now defend D Howard in a series with a combo of Perk and Shaq.  Miami won't have the interior strength to deal with us in the paint.  Shaq and JO will hold down Perk's C spot until he is healthy and then JO can move back to backing up KG.  This is the perfect scenario for us this offseason!  WooHoo!  Bring on the Big Shamrock!

Other thing I like this this creates a huge matchup problem for Miami. The C's could now pound them inside.

We'd have to toss in the first probably to get them to play along.

Maybe, instead of throwing in a first, we should just tell their owner that anything he does to help the Celts this year will hurt the Heat's chances in the playoffs.
