This will be an excellent signing if Shaq is here to be the backup center and play 10-15 minutes a night.

If Shaq is here to play as a starter and play 20-25 minutes a night ... then I do not like this signing.

Everyone knows that. The question is whether Shaq knows it -- and this will determine whether this signing will fly or flop.

#Celtics appear to be close to signing Shaquille O'Neal. Will have the story up shortly.

Wow.  I am not a huge fan of this from a personality, as well as basketball perspective (I don't know how well he will mesh with the system)...but it sure would be fun.  And honestly, it is the kind of high reward type move (we can determine the risk when we hear what the deal is) that this team probably needs to do to compete with Miami and LA.

I personally don't think it will work out great, but it has the potential to be spectacular, if they can make it work.  And given where they stand right now, I guess, why not swing for the fences.  I was a proponent of the Marbury signing for a similar reason, so I certainly can't argue against this too hard.

You covered all the bases.  He might be great he might blow.. I was against the Marbury and Sheed signings although I'm not quite sure how they are comparable in the least to shaq but, it's an interesting concept.  I'll think about some more and then maybe the comparison will come to me.

I love me some Shaq.  Ever since last year's CB draft, I've been dying to see the O'Neal brothers together.

BOO YA! Get it done with! Call it an off-season!

We still need another backup sf.  I don't think we should feel comfortable with the injury prone Daniels Pierce's only backup.  Now get Corey Brewer and THEN call it an off-season.

Hope he's hitting the treadmill and on the shake diet. Overall, I'm fired up for this if it happens.

Or, make this a S&T and bring back either Moon or Anthony Parker.

What's a better place to have them Irish brothers together than Boston, eh? :)

Mathematically speaking he could only play 20 min a game so I think the point is moot.  But by all means worry away.

Also, what number will he wear? 32 and 33 appear to be off the table  ::)

I think Montross was #0
I know Robert "Chief" Parish was #00
Therefore, I suggest Shaquille O'Neal wear #000 since he is physically as big as both Parish and Montross combined!

Huge signing

We have not one but TWO guys that can guard D-Howard one on one; an interior force that still commands a double-team that leads to open shots for guys like Ray, Paul, & other shooters, does not guard the pick & roll well but his benefits definitely out weigh the cost. + Who on Miami will be able to stop him? With 20-25mpg, he will do damage to opposing teams.

Sounds like a deal to me!
Let's Go Celtics!!
