All this assumes he doesn't already work on it constantly and that it's laziness that's holding him back, not his freakish fingers or confidence. I have never once heard a report that a coach said that Rondo was too stubborn to work at his game, just that sometimes he was too stubborn to listen to how to run a play or how to be a leader. I have never seen his work -ethic questioned, and when someone ha a glaring a hole as Rondo's jumper and no one is calling him on not working hard enough then you know he already has a fire lit under him.
I will never buy the long fingers argument. There are plenty of big men with long fingers who shoot very well. Rondo has large fingers for his height, but are they larger than all the big men who are good shooters?
There are definitely multiple things that Rondo works on in the offseason, one of them being shooting. It is hard to evaluate his effort without being able to compare to players who managed to go from being very bad shooters to decent.
People use the long fingers excuse for Shaq, but I've read claims that KG has longer fingers and he is an excellent perimeter shooter. Would be nice to know actual measurements
It's confidence and repetition.
But I also actually think he made progress last year (which it appears some don't) so I think it's only a matter of time before he becomes what some would call decent.
I agree with the confidence but the numbers show the same or even worse shooting from him.
Regardless of his jumper, the dude needs to be able to shoot FTs. There is just no excuse for him to not.
I think he'll benefit from playing with good players on Team USA. He can maybe make some beneficial connections for our post big three team and I think the coaching and input from other players will help him.
Just watching how other stars play, think, and prepare from a teammate angle can help. With the "Redeem Team", all the younger stars got a big boost from playing with eachother and watching older stars like Kobe work in the gym. This team is obviously not as talented and doesn't have as many veterans but I think there will still be positives to be taken for a young player like Rondo. The team is stacked with young PGs right now so playing alongside and against them has to be giving him something to take away from the experience. Billups is a good guy to watch and learn from.
