Now that the Celtics signed Wafer, does that mean no Rudy?
I doubt that this would stand in the way. I agree with others...this is a no-risk signing IN CASE we can't get another shooter, but this would in no way stop Ainge from getting Rudy and pushing Wafer further back in the depth chart. He's to big a question mark to bank on and pass up a legit rotation player.
I like the wafer signing though.
How about Glen Davis and a 2nd rounder for Fernandez, Pendergraph, Cunningham?
Why is everybody so willing to give up Davis?
Aren't you glad Ainge is the GM? Baby is Celtics best bench player. And part time starter when his number is called. Meanwhile, Rudy is a non-rotation player in freaking Portland. A team that made to the finals (6minutes away), versus a team that barely makes the playoffs and goes home early.
Baby's a good player. Not very good, not great, he's good. Our team is FAR from perfect and is definitely capable of being upgraded.
Over the last 3 years we have had one of the very best teams in the NBA, and one consistency has been that our starters are really really good...way better vs. competition than our bench. Our starters are our meal ticket. Let's not confuse the fact that Davis is a decent bench player behind a fantastic starting unit with the fact he's untradeable.
I'm willing to "give" him away (of course clearly it's not give, it's trade, for multiple pieces to deepen the bench) because, since our starters are the C's mealticket, the bench is adjustible. I think people give way too much of the Celtics' team success to bit role players; there's lots of players in the league that can do what Davis does and do it better.
However, he's a good player, and he's pretty cheap, so he could be enticing for other teams.
So yeah, I'd probably give him (along with a pick) up for Rudy (a misused player in Portland, but a pretty good one) and two young PF's (both of whom have been more productive on an individual level in their first NBA seasons than Davis has been in any of his; it's not their fault their starters aren't as good as Boston's).
