This tread makes me sick. Everybody that wants BBD off this team has no basketball IQ.
Other teams would kill for a bench guy like that. How may big games he won for us?
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

I for one hope they don't trade him and if they do I hope it's to the Western Conference because I wouldn't want to be proven right about him (which will happen) and have him reek havoc all over our old front line in some big game.  It's one thing to be proven correct about him being 10X better than Powe but, not at the expense of my team.  DA knows the game unlike most fans so if he trades BBD it will be for the betterment of the team going forward.  Perkins is out so the need (not really) to make a move should seems less imperative at the moment.

i wouldn't mind trading BBD if 1) Sheed doesn't retire and 2) we get a very solid 3 in return.

see, BBD is a solid role player with great hands and high basketball IQ. But to get quality, you have to give up quality. Right now, our biggest need is a legit small forward. I'm not convinced with either Marquis or Wafer. Maybe someone like Travis Outlaw or Thaddeus Young or something.

WHY???  WHY do they want Shrek to GO?
Is it because he is an Ogre?  Because he is Green?
Because he is different?

Right now I am not interested in trading him, but if 'Sheed decides to return, I think it would be wiser to move him than keep him. We would have 5 players under contract, 4 of which make more money than him, thus making him valuable (I don't know how many GM's would "kill" for him however).

Big Baby has indeed won big games for us. So did Nate. And Posey. And House. And PJ. That's what good bench players do. I love BBD as much as the next guy, but he isn't untradeable.

We have bigger needs, like a quality wing, which I believe BBD could net us. I'd rather move our 5th-6th best big for a backup SG/SF.

Trading your only young healthy big is not wise.

If all 5 bigs are healthy at the ASB, then you can still afford an injury and reap the benefits of a very good wing player.

Our wing depth should be of much greater concern, especially if 'Sheed returns.

This thread reminds me a thread about Rondo from few month ago - http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=36169.0

  • You say when......
soooo, do you think the 24-25 yr old will show up this year, IN SHAPE..? Now that the other teams know he might run for a rebound, they will guard him too. No reason to be fat in the NBA at 24. Did he improve over the summer? Or do you not expect any improvements from him.....sure, he did some great things now and then....but he is getting paid big $$$, so what is the next level....how about consistancy, like a big forward worth his $$$, 10 points per game, 8-10 rebounds..if he can do that, he'll prove his worth. What does he get 3-5 mill a year..? THAT is next level money, not just a now and then hero. Make them cover you, then do something anyway...that is a next level player....a goood bench guy, yes, maybe, but a good bench guy doesn't get 3-5 mill. Unless he is 30 something and an older vet..not 24, in his prime..!

I don't care if you are 24, 34, or even 44 years old. If you are an NBA player, there is no excuse for being out of shape. You are (supposedly) a world class athlete playing a fast-paced game. You practice and lift weights daily. A team of doctors/trainers available to you 24/7. You are a millionaire who can afford the best diet.

I never understood it.

These threads make me so mad.  He is a back up!  If he was starting maybe you can complain.  He has been a very successful 2nd round pick and is a good role player in this league.  For 3.3 mil a year, he is well worth the price.  You simply cannot trade him.

I agree with the first part.  He's a good value and good bench player.

However, I question his status with the team after this season.  Sure, if he wants to come back for one year at big money or long term at similar money, that's great.  But if another team offers him 5-6 million per year over 3-5 years, I'm not sure Danny will or should match.  In my opinion, that's too much money for a guy best suited to be a backup.  More importantly, that contract could hinder the C's cap flexibility during the post Big 3 transition.

Now we shouldn't be looking to trade him.  However, if he alone or along with Rasheed could net us a starting quality 3 to backup Allen and Pierce, I'd consider trading him, especially if Ainge truly believe Perk can make it back for the playoffs.

you were agreeing with me..? I thought that was my point, that the fat kid should be in shape, like he said he would 3 years ago (cheeseburger please), I at least do agree with you.....he is paid to be in shape.

You simply cannot trade him.

he's a solid role player, but i wouldn't go so far as to saying that.

With what we have now, you can't.  Your top 3 bigs are bigs who have had injury issues in the past few years.  You know KG and Jermaine O'Neal will both miss 10+ games, while Shaq will prob be missing 20+.  You cannot trade Davis.  We need some youth in the front court.
