Jevi, did it ever occur to you that the problems that the second unit had in scoring and building upon leads last year, especially in the second half of the year when Davis played, was an entire team problem?

I remember game after game after game where the second unit might not expand a lead but would maintain it only to see the starters come in and lose it. I saw Rasheed Wallace forget that he was 6'11" and could play in the post and rebound and hustle for lose balls. I saw Eddie House have his worse shooting year in 5 years. I saw Daniels go down to injury. I saw Tony Allen be pathetic on offense.

The problems you mentioned were endemic of the entire team. The starters gave away more second half leads and lost games than anyone. Across the board the team was awful at defensive rebounding. As for the box out his man comment, that is just plain wrong. Davis boxes out better than just about anyone else on the team. He boxes out so well he takes his man and himself out of the area to get rebounds so that his team mates can get them. The problem is that most of his team mates suck at boxing out and try to use their fading athleticism to grab rebounds and that is no longer working.

I suggest you get a hold of some game tapes from the last 6 weeks of the regular season and take a more careful look at just how this whole team was playing. They were all bad.

Now ive heard it,since the finals there has been either a thread or posts dedicated to which player costs them game 7.Each of the starters has been named the reason they lost so far.I guess its the bench's turn to take the heat.lol

Game 7 Big Baby's fault?  How?  He played 21 minutes and had 6 points and 9 boards, 8 of which were defensive.  He was rebounding.  He was keeping his guys off the offensive glass.  KG had 3 rebounds in the game.  Sheed had 8 in 35 minutes.  Big Baby was our best rebounder in game 7.  You cannot get rid of this guy.  He's going to make what? 3.3 mil? That's hardly anything for his production.  He comes in, he brings energy and he works hard.  He's never taking a play off.  He goes and gets the ball and he is a perfect forward off the bench.  So many people on this board want 12 all-stars on this team.  It isn't going to happen guys!  Go ahead and find me a better 4th big in the league last year then Big Baby.  There aren't too many.
do it

Thats where this post came from. I happen to read a Post that got on KG about his contributions in the Finals. I was amazed how fans forgot last year's results without KG. I was also disgusted bout the audacity fans had to utter the words "we're stuck with KG's contract". As if fans didn't even realize how this team just happen to get to the Finals on the wheels of a less the 100% KG. If anything, KG is worth every single penny. He is as advertised the "Big Ticket". Fans acted like he should've did more. Ungrateful was the barrage of that Post. The post was about KG's rebounding. Finals are over, this Post is about the future. Who else are you building this team to beat?

Dude, you can't just keep harping on Baby's play in game 7 and not expect anyone to spread the blame to other players as well. While I don't blame the loss on any one player (or even any one game) it's still a fact that KG got half the rebounds in 2010 vs LA that he got in 2008 vs LA.

Did I say I even wanted Powe back. I mentioned Powe helped build upon leads, that's it. I don't see him ever coming back. Was I ever a fan of Baby, yes,me & friends wondered why he was being benched for Powe. Last year,he got his minutes after Powe went down. Baby then led the unit, and suddenly games were harder, scores way to close, trading baskets. Baby don't get defensive rebounds/start fast breaks/alter shots/provide good spacing/or box his man. So,please stop with the he's developed his (half court)offense, that led the lead in shots blocked. Why do I want him hitting mid range jumpers,so Rondo can outrebound him so more? Am I an expert,no way,my degree is not in Playa Hating. I just wanna win big & easy, like where fatty's from,NO. Anyway, this is part of the segment when we read Baby Backer opinions.

    * He can create his own offense against starters and bench guys. Nope, rejected!
    * He can finish around the rim and has soft hands to handle passes in traffic. Manicured soft hands, yes but Rejected again! Pass the ball, you hog! Nope
    * He is shockingly quick footed and graceful for his size. No. Not enough on his defensive rotations or spacing for teammates. Can't even control his body sometimes except when Doing the Dougie of course!
    * He has good range for a big man. unnecessary at 300lbs
    * He doesn't shy away from a big shot when he's open.Agree
    * He consistently grabs boards on offense and defense. Avg 3.8 total this season, calm down
    * He effectively uses his strength defensively. sometimes
    * He's great at taking charges. What else he gonna do?
    * He uses his strength to wear guys down. You just made Dwight smile. Nope,at end of games, opponent wear him down.
    * He has a solid basketball IQ and knowledge of positioning. He might, but short comings don't help that
    * He hustles. Floor burns and warnings for first row attenders will be in order for diving or crashing. Agree
    * He gets his teammates excited. Got KG excited once, oops
    * He has personality. Immature - "While the camera is on Chucky Atkins, you can hear Glen Davis of the Boston Celtics telling a heckler to suck his d***. Dumbo was fined $25000 for the comment and all because the heckler called him “fat boy” and “chubs” If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen Davis..Toughen up you Big Baby."

You've said several times in this topic about how BBD gets blocked all the time, and then say having a mid range game is "unnecessary"? Cause he's 300 pounds? Really? You say BBD's shortcomings overshadow his basketball IQ, yet need a reason for why he needs a mid-range game?

It sounds to me that BBD can't really make you happy no matter what he does. I'm convinced now; you just hate him that much. Like someone mentioned before, BBD's only true flaw to you is that he's not your beloved Powe, isn't it?

KG also got LESS THAN HALF the rebounds Baby got in game 7.  That's just one of the many reasons this thread is ridiculous.

Are we really headed into the season with Big Baby and "Semih-pro" Erden as the backup center rotation?
                                               by Jeff Clark

Which is my point, trade for some size. Sheed at his laziest was the better guy off the bench, and he proved it in the Finals. Fans who think Baby was, never realized how much he destroyed team play on the court. I can care less if you score 20 points when you cripple the team's offense(spacing) and defense(rotation). If I played with Baby,I'd wanna retire too.

Off-season is still very young.  We still may get Shaq and at the worst case, I imagine Danny picks up a Kwame Brown/Joe Smith type.

He did?  When?

So, for about 20 minutes a game in the playoffs, Davis destroyed the Celtics team play.  Over 24 playoff games.

Teams do not survive through game 7 of a series (not to mention game 7 of the finals) if they have a player you are describing playing 20 minutes a game.

Davis is a strong big man to have off the bench.  A role player capable of strong spot starts.   His height and lack of lift on his jump will likely keep him from ever being a strong starter on a contender, but the Celtics do not need that from him.

WHAT!!!! big baby stays. He brings energy off the bench! Plus he steps up undetermined pressure and plays well for us!! I personally think his game is. Good to ne an under sized big man.. plus he's quick on his feet!!!!

I've been talking for weeks about how Baby might be our only real trade chip.

That said, to suggest that we're better off without him is silly.  The Celtics won 62 games when KG missed 25 games and won 50 when he only missed 13.  If we were to apply the same logic as you used, we'd have to say that KG's additional 12 game presence cost us those 12 extra games.  And that's silly.

I'm realistic about BBD.  He's a great role player and plays with a lot of heart.  I'm OK with saying that he's not ever going to start on a contender and that he's likely not going to be part of our post Big Three rebuilding plans.  But we don't need to say he sucks.

You're embarassing yourself now.  KG was suspended who started?
He basically closed the Game 4 winof the fianls against LA with a vintage 4th qtr performance along with Nate.  C'mon man let it go.

Yet in the final three games of the series, Davis scored 6 points in 61 minutes as the Celtics fell short of their goal.
