i'm a huge CP3 fan so  i'll try not to let that cloud my vision:

the way i see it, this might be the best offer NO can get. they get an absolutely tremendous player in Rondo, and cap relief in sheed and perk's short contract. after all, everybody knows that CP3 doesn't want to play for NOH anymore. and when trading players of CP3's caliber, you can't expect to get players of similar value. add to that, they get to rid themselves of Okafor's crappy contract.

as for Boston... i'm on the fence. i would do it because CP3 is dominant. good rebounder for a PG, and he can SHOOT! he's got terrific handles, plays the passing lanes well on D, has heart/desire, etc. but the downside is that trading sheed's contract means that we can't get anything better than a vet min for our primary back up wing. if Matt Barnes is willing to play for a vet min, then i'd do this deal. but if we're going to be stuck with a vet min player... i'll have to think twice on that. CP3 can play tons of minutes in a season but Ray and PP can't. and the fact that we have no bench behind them is bad news.

Boston has the hammer offer if they want to make it: Rondo, Perkins, Sheed's ghost, No. 1 + 3m for CP3 + Okafor. NO has to say yes to that.

This is a great deal at face value for both sides....but Perkins' injury would have to sour the deal a bit for NO.

I think Okafor's long deal (4 yrs left) would make NO want to do this. Although Perk is injured, his contract is an expiring one.

They would swap Rondo for a player who doesn't want to play there, get cash, a 1st rdr, and cap flexibility. NO would probably have to pull the trigger on this.
It doesn't make a difference if Paul doesn't want to be there. He is under contract.

It does make a difference. Don't you recall Kobe nearly being traded to the Bulls because of his trade demands just a few years ago? The Lakers would have never even considered that deal if he hadn't voiced his frustrations publicly.

Looks like the trade talk is building steam. I'm sure if anyone knows what's really going on behind the scenes it's LeBron.

First off let me say I cant stand Bill Simmons, he cries about everything.  "Oh I lost my childhood innocence when Manny Ramirez got busted for PEDs....Oh I cannot write good articles since the Red Sox won a second world series...blah, blah blah.  The guy is a hack and a cry baby and I am a Boston fan (for most everything except Hockey).

As for the trade, am I the only one who believes Rondo is either as good or on the same level as CP3?  If there are 5 top PGs in the game, CP3, Deron Williams, Rose, the kid from Sacramento, Rondo has to be the 5th.

But some of the potential deals are interesting.  My Guess is that NY has seen an opening and will try and get him.

Right now the Lakers are kicking themselves in the ass for signing Blake and Fisher.

HAHAHAHA. Your top 5 is laughable. CP3? Yes. Deron Williams? Yes. Derrick Rose? Hell to the no. He doesn;t even know what the word 'defense' means. Top 10, but not top 5. I take it "that kid from Sacramento" is Tyreke Evans? He just got off an amazing rookie season, he's not there yet, but he soon will be.

Top 5 PGs in the NBA (IMO):
Chris Paul
Steve Nash
Deron Williams
Chauncey Billups
Rajon Rondo

Probably could turn Rondo to New York for some non-pg pieces if New Orleans wanted to rebuild with collison.
That, or they could just turn Paul to New York. Occam's Razor.

[Paul] is a total package.
Minus that whole defense thingie, and plus a lot of annoying whining.

Actually CP3 is an excellent defensive PG.

What exactly does New York Have to offer in a trade besides curry's expiring contract? Certainly nothing that could match a celtics package that includes rondo right?

Also, this is how i feel on the rondo-paul deal. I'm a bit hesitant. I say go for it, maybe it opens up our window a bit. It certainly makes our team better next year.

BUT, he has to agree to an extension before coming here. We have to lock him up. I don't want to have a squad of Pierce and Okafor in 2013. Paul has to be here for the longterm.

Also, if any sort of trade talk heats up between new orleans and the lakers. We need to prevent that from happening.

Kobe had / has a no trade clause in his contract -- Paul doesn't. That said, you wouldn't want to trade for Paul and give up Rondo if he had no interest in playing for the Celtics.

Ya, imo he's an upgrade defensively over Rondo

He gets a lot of steals. That's not the same as being an excellent defensive player -- just ask Allen Iverson.

CP3 waited too long: had he gone public last month, NYK-NJ-Dal had the cap room/assets to deal. The most realistic matches now: Hou or Bos.

Rondo + Sheed's waivable deal + '11 no. 1 + 3 mill for CP3 + Posey. RT @joshlacey33: Let's hear your idea of a paul to boston

Can't decide. CP's knee scares me but we lost Finals b/c Kobe played 8 ft off Rondo. RT @stevensonpj: Would you rather have Paul than Rondo?

I agree that BOS has the best offer of the teams listed, but my sense is the CP wants to go to a team and build a young core (ie him + DHoward, or him + Amare) for himself instead of kinda tagging on to what we have going on here with GPA...

not sure if that is the right take on everything, but that is the sense I am getting at the moment.

I'd agree that the Thunder and the Celtics can probably offer the best packages.

Some of the others, i don't get:

Portland -- Batum? Fernandez? Aldridge? No thanks. Would they trade Roy? When is he ever healthy?

Orlando -- Jameer Nelson and Marcin Gortat? For Chris Paul?

New York -- they have no picks. Gallinari? Again, not enough...

Dallas -- Rodrique Broubois? Get serious.

The fact is the Hornets are going to have to like what they get back, and these teams aren't going to have great packages. The Cs and Thunder would offer the best talent and finances, PLUS would be the most competitive teams for Paul to be on AFTER he's traded there....

He has the same amount of all defense selections as Rondo.

Besides Rondo also gets a lot of steals. CP3 is an excellent defensive PG by any measure, I don't get why you think he's a poor one.
