I don't see Melo as a Celtic - I want him to be, but it would have to be by trade. If he chooses not to sign the extension Denver offered him, then Melo would be an FA in 2011 if he opts out. We have no money to sign him in 2011.
Unless they aren't very smart, Denver will trade Melo if they know he's leaving so they can get something back. We will have expiring contracts to offer.
Our target on 2012 should be Dwight Howard.
Definitely!
Too bad he isn't a free agent. I just looked again and Brook Lopez is on the list and that is about the best free agent big man at this time. So 2 of 3 of Chris Paul, Melo or Brook Lopez would be our big 3 paired with Rondo. I guess you probably trade Rondo (with filler) for Howard and sign Chris Paul & Melo...
What are you talking about Howard is a free-agent in 2012 and Carmelo is a free-agent next year, we still won't have any cap space to get Melo next year.
We will have a number of contracts with 1 year left. Maybe they can be turned into something if it seems like a better idea to make a trade rather then continuing with the Big Three core.
Yeah I too think that where we are going to really make improvements to our roster and changeover is from trades too. Danny has done a good job with getting guys to sign to trade able contracts. I don't know if Melo is the guy we're looking at, but I wouldn't mind it.
I'd hope you wouldn't mind Melo. He's such an amazing offensive player, he can score in every single way at a high and effecient rate. He also has become a good rebounder and defender and has played very well in the playoffs, especially '09. The Nuggets may have lost in the Western Conference finals but Melo was playing out of his mind and with an amazing fire, he took Kobe as his assignment was soundly outplaying him and beasting on him in the paint.
Melo with Rondo and a good, preferably defensive minded big and we're all set. (Dwight Howard would be the dream, but idk if he's going to leave Orlando)
