Dwight has an early termination option - meaning he can opt out and become a free agent in 2012. Don't know how much the new CBA will affect players' salaries, if it doesn't make too much of a dent he'll prob opt out.

Brook Lopez will be a restricted FA and all indications are that he's a big part of their future. I wouldn't be surprised if he was extended before then, if not they'll match him.

Our target on 2012 should be Dwight Howard.

Definitely!

Too bad he isn't a free agent. I just looked again and Brook Lopez is on the list and that is about the best free agent big man at this time. So 2 of 3 of Chris Paul, Melo or Brook Lopez would be our big 3 paired with Rondo. I guess you probably trade Rondo (with filler) for Howard and sign Chris Paul & Melo...

What are you talking about Howard is a free-agent in 2012 and Carmelo is a free-agent next year, we still won't have any cap space to get Melo next year.

We will have a number of contracts with 1 year left.  Maybe they can be turned into something if it seems like a better idea to make a trade rather then continuing with the Big Three core.

Yeah I too think that where we are going to really make improvements to our roster and changeover is from trades too.  Danny has done a good job with getting guys to sign to trade able contracts. I don't know if Melo is the guy we're looking at, but I wouldn't mind it.

@CelticSooner, right now Orlando's overpaying role players and trading for stars past their prime - much like the Cavs did with He Who's Name Shall be Spoken. Let's hope it all plays out the exact same way, lol.

To early for that.  We haven't seen any bring back threads yet today lol.

I was just thinking about creating another "BIG 3" and Chris Paul is the biggest free agent out there that year. Melo, CP3 and Rondo is not much of a comparison to Wade, Bosh, & Lebron. It will have to be through trades...

I disagree that CP3 is the biggest FA - I think Dwight will be equally recruited, if not a bigger target. Rondo's contract is still cap friendly, so I like the possibility of pairing him with Dwight. I don't think we'll have enough cap to bring in a 3rd guy with Paul's $16m on the books, but we could target some 2nd tier guys for sure.

Haha good point. Although the bring Gerald Green back thread is somewhat high on the list.

And i get what youre saying with the "create another big three" mentality... But just because Paul is the biggest free agent out there doesnt mean we should break the bank on him when we already have a top 5 point guard filling this teams needs. I mean how many teams have ever had 2 top 5 point guards on the same team at the same time? None to my knowledge please correct me if I'm wrong...

If it came between Keeping Rondo and getting a free agent PF and SG over keeping Rondo and signing Paul, I would take the PF and SG without question. We need a team, not two point guards just because they are "big free agents".

Yeah, I didn't see Dwight on FA list so Dwight Melo and Rondo sounds good to me if that was ever possible. Sounds like not with Pierces salary.

That actually would be a perfect balanced core. Great Def Big, One of the best scorers in the game and the best distributor in the league. ft% would be a problem though. That actually would give the Miami Big 3 a run for their money.

There seems to be an active "bring back Gerald Green" thread. I'm exercising a bit of self control and refraining from reading it, but I know it's there...

I don't see Melo as a Celtic - I want him to be, but it would have to be by trade. If he chooses not to sign the extension Denver offered him, then Melo would be an FA in 2011 if he opts out. We have no money to sign him in 2011.

Would be a silly move. Why would you want your two best players to play the same role on the team?

Unless they aren't very smart, Denver will trade Melo if they know he's leaving so they can get something back.  We will have expiring contracts to offer.

Yeah I too think that where we are going to really make improvements to our roster and changeover is from trades too.  Danny has done a good job with getting guys to sign to trade able contracts. I don't know if Melo is the guy we're looking at, but I wouldn't mind it.

I'd hope you wouldn't mind Melo.  He's such an amazing offensive player, he can score in every single way at a high and effecient rate.  He also has become a good rebounder and defender and has played very well in the playoffs, especially '09. The Nuggets may have lost in the Western Conference finals but Melo was playing out of his mind and with an amazing fire, he took Kobe as his assignment was soundly outplaying him and beasting on him in the paint.

Melo with Rondo and a good, preferably defensive minded big and we're all set. (Dwight Howard would be the dream, but idk if he's going to leave Orlando)

Rondo, Melo, and Howard would be awesome.  Melo would have be committed to getting it done on D and be more efficient on offense which he has been becoming.

Snakehead, we'd have to give up more than expirings to snag Carmelo. Outside of Rondo, I just don't think we have enticing trade assets.
