I am sorry Mike Miller is not worth 8-10 mil a year.  If Danny won't give Tony Allen a 3rd year for 3 million dollars, I doubt he would give Mike Miller a contract of 5 yrs 40mill lol.

Letting Tony go over a 3rd year at 3 million (after Ray and Paul took heavy pay cuts) means 2 possible things to me.

1. The Celtics are suddenly going very cheap and plan to try to compete this year with the worst bench in the KG era.

2. The Celtics have a better 2/3 player they are targeting. I'm not necessarily saying that that player would be Miller. But something could be cooking under that plume of Wallace contract smoke.

you mean something other than marijuana?

lol. TP

It's not like he would have a better role on Miami than say the Cs or the Lakers....
He can easily start in Miami. Wade will play PG defensively, and LeBron will be the PG offensively. I'd rather do that than have that headless chicken Chalmers in there.

what kind of pressure could teams put on Miller not to join the Miami Heat.

I don't think it would be teams, but other players.  We know that players' contract negotiations are based in part on how much other guys get paid ("Travis Outlaw got 5/$35M, and I'm a better player than him!"

Mike Miller settling for less than his real market value could make for more contentious negotiations for players.  "Why should we pay you $7M?  Mike Miller only earns $5M?"

I personally believe Miller shouldn't be pressured into *not* signing any contract he wants to, but there will be a tendency in any kind of labor market like this for guys to pressure other people to *not* settle for less money.

Don't think any teams would view his signing as negative; helps their bargaining position with their own free agents.
I'm not sure history actually supports this idea. There really isn't that much consistency in contracts. This isn't like arbitration in baseball or draft contracts in football.

A guy like Mike Miller who is a virtual unknown by the casual basketball fan could probably become pretty famous if the Heat are in the finals for the next 5 years.

Fame is worth something.  Winning is worth something.

The guy shot 50% last year and 48% from three... playing with those guys he'll flourish.  It's a great situation.

If somehow the Celtics manage to sign Mike Miller, it will be a great off-season.
I would love to have TA back but Miller could make me forget about TA.

This is the longest of long shots.

Miller is probably signing with the Heat. If not the Heat, maybe the Bulls for more than the Heat can offer. If not the Heat or Bulls, then maybe the Clippers. If not the Clippers...

...I think you'd have to go through five or six teams before you got to the C's.

Would have to be a sign and trade.  What would make the Wiz want to do that?

Other teams are always trying to get players to back out of oral agreements.

I remember Rashard Lewis and that idiotic max contract, even he had 2-4 teams calling him up and asking him to back out of the deal to sign a max contract with them instead.

I think Wade would get worn out trying to defend most decent PGs.  Remember, most of them are unlike Rondo and can hit an open 15 footer.  And just because Bron is a good passer, that doesn't mean he can run an offense.

He played PG for about 10 games last year and averaged double digit assists with a ast:to ratio of around 5:1 when Mo Williams was hurt, irrc.

I don't think Wade would pressure the ball most of the time so I don't think guarding a PG would wear him out anymore than guarding a SG would.

LeBron led the team in assists with and without Mo on the court and when Mo was hurt, LeBron played with two other guards in the backcourt for all but one game.

Wade won't have a quickness advantage against PGs, who will love putting him in pick-and-rolls.

Magic usually played with two other guards didn't he? LeBron can play the PG position at an all NBA level if that's where he is put by his coaching staff.

How many PGs have a quickness advantage on Wade? Not a whole lot, and he can adjust to guarding PGs if necessary. Do you really think he's a worse option that Mario Chalmers, Derek Fisher, Mo Williams, Shannon Brown, etc. that all were PGs defensively for playoff teams?

No way Miller backs out of his commitment to Heat.

C's would still need a glass cleaner..or two...  Remember every game won/lost was in direct correlation with boards won/lost... That being said, Mike would be a terrific addition for the C's.   :)
