If we can't get him, then he can go anywhere he wants as long as its not the Lakers or the Heat.

what kind of pressure could teams put on Miller not to join the Miami Heat.

I don't think it would be teams, but other players.  We know that players' contract negotiations are based in part on how much other guys get paid ("Travis Outlaw got 5/$35M, and I'm a better player than him!"

Mike Miller settling for less than his real market value could make for more contentious negotiations for players.  "Why should we pay you $7M?  Mike Miller only earns $5M?"

I personally believe Miller shouldn't be pressured into *not* signing any contract he wants to, but there will be a tendency in any kind of labor market like this for guys to pressure other people to *not* settle for less money.

Don't think any teams would view his signing as negative; helps their bargaining position with their own free agents.

I don't see him passing on a 25-30 mil contract to sign for the vet min.

....  uh, huh?

If he signs in Boston, it would be as part of a S&T using 'Sheed's contract and whatever other sweeteners Washington would require to get a deal done.  We could sign him for ~$8M/per ('Sheed's deal + 25%).  Trade 'Sheed to Washington for him, 'Sheed retires or is bought out.  We send $$ or a draft pick as inducement for Washington to help us out.  We can send them up to $3M cash; if they can buy 'Sheed out for less than that, it's $$ in the bank for them.

No one's talking about Mike Miller taking the vet min, here or anywhere.

Woj has sources saying it's done.

Despite speculation MIke Miller is still considering last-minute offers elsewhere, source close to him says, "Deal is done," with Miami.

Celtics wcould work a deal with Sheed's expiring contract and pay Miller 9 million per year. Heck, starting either today or tomorrow Lafayette is trade eligible.

How about Wallace/Lafayette's buyout-able/cut-able contracts for Miller at $20/2 years? Throw in a 2nd rounder and cash to Washington.

Hypothetically, would you S&T for somewhat injury-prone, 30-year-old wingman Mike Miller if he would only do it for a five-year deal (assume for a moment that four is a no go) at the max you can offer him using Sheed's contract?  What if you had to throw in cash plus a future first round pick?

Tough to believe. He supposedly is very good friends with Haslem and he's a FLA grad.

I am sorry Mike Miller is not worth 8-10 mil a year.  If Danny won't give Tony Allen a 3rd year for 3 million dollars, I doubt he would give Mike Miller a contract of 5 yrs 40mill lol.

But if you factor in the addition by subtraction it might be worth it to Boston.

Mike Miller and Tony Allen aren't comparable.  Tony Allen is excellent at one thing, but atrocious at things you kind of need your shooting guard to do, like hit a jumper and dribble the [dang] basketball.

Mike Miller could probably start for half the teams in the league and play 25-30MPG for every one of them.  Tony Allen...  not so much.  Miller's an adequate defender (nowhere near as bad as his reputation), a good passer, one of the best rebounders in the league from the SG/SF position (comparable to Pierce at his peak), and one of the best shooters in the game.

He's had some injury issues, but a lot fewer than Tony Allen (and his game is much less sensitive to raw athleticism).  Tonys younger, but his game won't age as well as Miller's.

Would Danny do a 5 year deal for Miller?  Doubt it.  Four years?  Doubtful as well - but possible.  We WILL need a shooting guard in two seasons, and Mike Miller should still be a very good player at that time.

Letting Tony go over a 3rd year at 3 million (after Ray and Paul took heavy pay cuts) means 2 possible things to me.

1. The Celtics are suddenly going very cheap and plan to try to compete this year with the worst bench in the KG era.

2. The Celtics have a better 2/3 player they are targeting. I'm not necessarily saying that that player would be Miller. But something could be cooking under that plume of Wallace contract smoke.

I agree. Too much of a risk long term. An aging player dealing with multiple nagging injuries. 2 year or 3year deal would be perfect. If not, go young. Get a running bench to surround Rondo.
