I really don't see the Celtics winning without him.  He doesn't put up big numbers or anything like that, but his presence is huge.  If the Celtics are missing him down low, their rebounding and interior defense will suffer, and I can't imagine them winning.

Perkins is more important to the Celtics than Bynum is to the Lakers.  Seriously.  Without Perk, the Celtics are a legitimately bad rebounding team, and the team that wins on the boards wins in this series.

I sincerely hope he can play on Thursday.

I think that is overstating it. If Bynum is not felling good, we can manage so long as KG and Sheed stay out of foul trouble.

I just think the Celtics are much worse defensively and on the boards when KG and Sheed are playing together.  It can't be overstated how much better they are when KG and Perk start the game and then Sheed and Davis come in.

Add in the fact that our bench bigs become Big Baby and Shelden, and it is even worse.

Perk is the only player on the Celtics who consistently boxes out, and he's the strongest interior defender by far.  He may only grab 5-6 rebounds a game, but his impact on the Celtics' rebounding is far greater.

Good Point, Pos - but I cannot count out Our Boston Celtics even in the event that Perk doesn't play on Thursday. We've come too far and with Very Improbable Odds to give up now - no matter who's hurt.

Maybe Perk can at least start and play long enough for the lakers to focus there attention him early to test him allowing our other players to get off to a good start????

I don't know just a thought.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
BUT!
If we win on Thursday without Perk, it'll automatically squash the "If Bynum was 100%, we'd win" crap from the LA fanboys.

@ESPNForsberg Nothing definitive, but Tony Allen in particular talking like Kendrick Perkins' season is over. Win one for Perk talk from TA.

tp +1

No one and nothing is done, even without Perk. We took Orlando to game 7 with Scal as the first cover to Perk and Baby. This team will prove once more that you shouldn't put your money against them.

I disagree, and I'm pretty sure there's another thread on the same topic.

On top of it being a game 7, with perk gone, we'll play with more urgency. That's what we were lacking this game.

I saw a lot of fighting and diving for loose balls and what not from both teams.

What I didn't see from the Celtics was any execution whatsoever on either end of the floor.

They didn't lack effort, they lacked cohesion.  They looked disjointed, mixed up, out of sync - you get the picture.

Tonight was like Game 1 only much, much worse.  The Lakers looked like a much, much better team.  Perk going down just compounded it and turned it into a huge joke.

Well, in fairness, the Celtics are a legitimately bad rebounding team with Perkins too. Now, it just might get embarrassing. Maybe Shelden can provide some decent minutes, considering the only thing he can do is rebound.

Perkins and Bynum are equivalent in terms of importance.  We can win without Perk tomorrow, but I'm not looking forward to going into battle without one of our toughest warriors.

Perks interior defense is actually more important than his rebounding, we need him and will miss him.
BUT remember how far we went last year without Garnett.  Time for Davis (start him) to shine and 'Sheed to step up.  Expect some minutes out of Williams who is not playing at finals speed but if he can concentrate on little things he can do for us will help.

This team can most definitely win without Perk.

KG, Davis, Wallace and Scali (I'm sorry, Williams is giving this team nothing this series when he is on the field) need to step up and be more physical.

Wallace doesn't need to worry about a tech.
