Perk is a proven entity.

Bynum is a proven walking infirmary.

with perk not playing, there will be a major emphasis on the team to rebound, which i think will be a good thing.  it will force them to put in the effort to crash the boards.  furthermore, it may force rondo to focus on getting boards.......and when rondo rebounds, he makes things happen for the offense.

Paul Pierce was singing from the same hymnal: "I just love the pressure, truthfully, man. I love the fact that I get to play against the Los Angeles Lakers in a Game 7 on the road. I love the fact that if I don't win multiple championships that I probably won't be mentioned amongst the other guys in Celtic history that's done it before. That type of stuff motivates me. ... I haven't really even thought about the feeling of not being there with the other guys and winning multiple championships, because I feel like we're going to get it done."

I think that is overstating it. If Bynum is not felling good, we can manage so long as KG and Sheed stay out of foul trouble.

I just think the Celtics are much worse defensively and on the boards when KG and Sheed are playing together.  It can't be overstated how much better they are when KG and Perk start the game and then Sheed and Davis come in.

Add in the fact that our bench bigs become Big Baby and Shelden, and it is even worse.

Perk is the only player on the Celtics who consistently boxes out, and he's the strongest interior defender by far.  He may only grab 5-6 rebounds a game, but his impact on the Celtics' rebounding is far greater.
Of course it can be overstated.

How much better they are overall (offense and defense) will depend upon matchups.

If Sheed can avoid a foul in the first 6 minutes (I'll settle for 1), it will be a huge boost.  It will give the C's flexibility to use lineups out of choice rather than necessity.  Sheed will need plenty of rest to be sharp throughout and hopefully can avoid early fouls.

Not sure if anyone has been commenting on the change in dynamics that could really mix things up (perhaps in a good way) with Sheed starting.  Sheed can pull Bynum out to the perimeter, make him have to move on D, and perhaps open space in the lane for Pierce/Rondo/KG drives and rebounding.  Sheed has been effective on Gasol defensively and I think can be effective on the injured Bynum.  The C's 2nd unit will be small and will need energy production like they got in Game 4.  If they can survive a few minutes without KG or Sheed that will go a long way to keeping them fresh for the end.

Perk will be missed -- but I think more for eating up minutes than anything in this series. The play he got injured on may have been his best box out of the series.  If Bynum continues to be hobbled, Sheed and Garnett can do the job as long as their legs can stand it.  Baby minutes and Scal/Shelden minutes might prove huge if they can score points and run the Lakers hard while KG and Sheed rest.  Big IFs, but possible.

exactly.

you sound like someone who understands the game.

i'm not gonna say we have no hope - but Sheed is gonna have to play a very good game  - meaning REBOUND.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
