now in no way do i want to sound like celticthug.......but a coworker of mine is a close friend with a sportswriter for one of the local papers. he was told by the writer during the season that there were some issues in the locker room concerning rondo and ray. this was earlier in the season and has since been rectified. the issue was that ray wanted more looks and shots and was on rondo to give him the ball more....the reason, to increase his value on the market. take it for what it is worth. i dont even know how true this is, but my coworker is a friend and a fan of the team, and i can validate his friendship with the writer.
That story doesn't make sense. I mean, Ray wanting more shots might, and friction between he and Rondo is plausible. But the part about wanting to "increase his value on the market"? That's got to be speculation, either by your buddy or the sportswriter. I mean, why would Ray say that to anybody, even if it were true?
EDIT: Exactly what Bud said.
like i said, take it for what its worth. it was told to my friend by the writer. i can validate my friends relationship with him and know this writer is with the team a lot, but i cant disclose who it is.
no idea if it is true and i, myself was surprised when i was told that. ray has said he wants to retire here and is willing to sign for less $.....but even with that, u dont know if ray is being honest or saying "the right thing".
Personally, it would not surprise me that any athlete would say anything like this.
I don't know Ray Allen from Ron Artest from Shane Battier from Kobe Bryant from Grant Hill from Lebron James. What they are like, how they perceive the basketball"business" or how they act in the locker room and with team mates are all mysteries to me.
I, like all of us, make our opinions of these players based more on what we see on television, what we hear in interviews and what we read in papers and books not on personal interaction with these people.
I can not stand LeBron James. He comes off as an arrogant, self indulgent dink to me. One of my best friends in the whole world who was a Sports Information Director at the University of Akron during LeBron's high school days and early career as a Cav, who knows LeBron very well as a person, says the guy is a sweetheart and just a really good person. An upstanding guy. So who do I believe? The guy I would stake my life on if I had to or my own opinions of the guy that are dictated through Celtic love and the media?
All I'm trying to get at is though this report of DL's might not be of the perception that we have of Ray Allen, we don't really know Ray Allen and Ray might say something like this because Ray might be a family guy that wants to maximize his next contract to do everything possible to make sure his family is secure. Who knows? I don't think there are many of us that have ever been around these guys in the locker room and know what type of things they may say to each other.
And if DL is like me, he probably trusts his very good friend's word more than he might his own perception of Ray Allen that he got through mostly a media driven stream of info.
