Chris Webber said Ray will leave Boston this summer

Ray is playing really good in the playoff, the Celtics are winning games and looks more like 2008.

So Is there any chance after what we are seeing in the playoff that Ray would not want to re-sign with the Celtics?

Or Danny would not want to give him a new contact?

I'm asking this because I heard ones Chris Webber on tv saying that Ray probably will leave Boston this summer

I think Ray comes back, on a fairly generous two year deal.

I think Ray Allen is pretty much a certainty to return.

I'm not sure I'm happy about that ... but that's the way I believe it'll play out.

1) wants to play for a contender, contenders only have the mle to offer, c's can top that

2) no team with cap space is going to sign a 35 yr old sg to anything near the max

3) the c's want him to break reggie millers 3 pt made record in green

4) He would still be a very valuable trade chip

5) he is so important to what the c's do on offense, they need the spacing he gives them.

So i'm asking now when we are playing really good Webber will change his mind? Does playing good in the playoff and winning games changes plans  for Ray this summer?

I think Ray has always wanted to come back.  I think this playoff run (and really, his entire second half performance) has probably convinced Danny and Co. to extend him a viable contract offer.  I don't think you'll see a three year offer, but I think he'll get two.

I'd give Ray a Two year deal, with a team option 3rd:

2010-2011 - 8.0 Million
2011-2012 - 6.5 Million
2012-2013 - 4.5 Million (Team Option)

Total 19 Million.

This contract would almost guarantee He'd retire a Celtic, and be wearing Green when he brakes Reggie Miller's Record.  

Or we could trade him at the 2011-2012 Deadline for junk like Nate Robinson

Who cares what webber thinks?

as far as i know, he's not Ray's agent or connected to our front office, so his opinion is of no concern to me.

He's not even a good basketball anyalist, so i value this even less than i would had someone like Abbott or Legler brought it up.

We'll see how it goes this summer, and move on from there, but i could really care less about Chris Webber's uninformed guess.

  Unless they do some type of trade we won't be able to bring in a wing with more than the MLE. If you get someone that's pretty good then he and Ray and Paul can split the lion's share of the wing minutes. It could be an overall upgrade to what we have now.

He may not return if somebody with cap space offers him over $12 million a year or more than 3 years.  He also may not return if the Celtics don't offer him more than 2 years and he wants 3, or if they give him an excessively low-ball offer.

Exactly.  It could happen...but if I were a betting man, I would guess Ray and the C's end up on the same page.

6-8 weeks ago I would have agreed with this, now, I don't think so.

Ray, IMO, seemed to be effected mentally by the prospect of being traded away. It effected his game. What I saw as possible game decay due to age could very well have been mental fatigue and wear over the uncertainty of remaining in an area and in a situation that is perfect for him both personally and professionally.

Since his sit down with Danny and his wife, Ray's game has been different and his outside shooting touch has returned.

I think some of that is probably due to age but I am revising my opinion and now think it was mostly in his head. Once the deadline passed, he's been a better overall and all around player, playing , at times, some of the best defense I have seen him play in a Celtics uniform.

I say because of that his price has skyrocketed.

2 years - $24 million with a team option of a third year at $10 million.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Webber also was one of the guys how said the Celts had no chance again'st the Cavs. What does he know.

I would love to see ray back at a reasonable contract, but I would also like to see off the bench. I think he could give this team a real threat ans be that ^th man that the Celtics have always had.
