Sorry to interrupt but I was looking for a dead horse I lost...anyone seen it?

Sometimes the horse deserves to be beaten. I mean, come on. There's something to the whole "fixing" theory. Celtics up 2-0 in 4 series since the big 3 era started and have the same referee assigned to every single one of those game 3's? I want to run the calculations on that because it's gotta be pretty darn high to be coincidental.

You know, I want to dismiss any kind of "fix" off hand because I want to say it just wouldn't happen, but Jack Donaghy, before he got famous on 30 rock, showed us it can and did happen.

the real reason I want to dismiss it as off hand is because between politics, money, actual real life...there are all sorts of reasons to think the world is against you. I'd rather run the possibility of being naive and say "there is no fix" than look at basketball, one of the few things I can enjoy without inhibition, in a cynical way.

I agree with you. I just wish they would make the games look at least fair. I'll still be watching hoping the games are on the up and up and the refs are just bad. It's just getting harder and harder.

At this point I think I've moved past really caring if there's a fix or not. The officiating is awful and someone usually gets the short end of the stick. Whether it's because some refs are just incompetently bumbling through games, or the league wants certain players to suceed, or Nike has compromising pictures of Stern, or the NBA is married to the mob, or refs are betting on games, or Joey Crawford is auditioning for his own reality show whatever. I don't care why I just want it improved.

I have no idea why or how people can say the NBA is'nt rigged.  Ever heard of "SUPERSTAR CALLS" or watch a game and here the commentators say they (meaning the refs) arnt gonna call that on Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, ect, ect,. the NBA has done this since the early 90's at least and not once has the NBA ever come out and denied the or refuted these comments. In fact I say since the NBA pays these commentators to do these games then it's an admission to said corruption. If 10 players step on the court I don't care who it is they all should be on a level playing feild. Just cuz 1 player is better than the other nine doesn't mean that the guys calling fouls should change, bend,or overlook the rules for that1 player. I think that something needs to be done about this blatant corruption in the NBA

Good point.  The problem starts right there where you say...

thanks.
People can't say that what I said is some conspiracy theory either. It's FACT!! It ticks me off and it should tick every fan of basketball off also. The NBA tells everyone that the rules are different for certain players and we are suppose to believe that the game isn't rigged. Ya ok.When they say that it means it's RIGGED.
We have congress investigating baseball for cheating but the NBA tells the world it's corrupt and nothing happens. I'm not calling for congress to act but SOMETHING needs to happen. It's ruined the sport.

I think what most of us are saying is, this league isn't fixed but it's made in a way that gives certain players advantages, at the free throw line and so on. THAT STILL SUCKS. I would go as far as to say, that if you can't see the refs nursing James, I think you need (new) glasses.

That's it, I am done with this thread.

PS. You know, that dead horse you're talking about, IP? It went on tour with Primus.

How can you say that the league isn't rigged but it's made in a way that gives certain players advantages. That means it's RIGGED. Any time the rules change for some but not all it means it's rigged. I know the truth hurts but it is truth. The NBA is corrupt and is getting away with it period.  I guess I'm the only person who realises this.

Where were all you "the fix is in" guys in the first two games of the Miami series when teh Celtics took 55 foul shots and the Heat took 29?

Do the refs ever make bad calls in your world vinnie?

Guess you can't answer the question.

Ok Vinnie. In the first two games versus Miami, Boston went aggressively to the basket. They also had a nice advantage over Miami in points in the paint. Generally the team that does this gets more foul calls. Miami only has one player who really aggressively takes it to the basket (Wade), Haslem and Beasley tend to take jump shots limiting the amount of calls they receive and O'Neal couldn't buy a basket and he's Miami's best post player.

So care to answer my question?

Here is my answer -- for the 5-game series, the Celtis took 122 free throws to the Heat's 86. It was a perfectly reffed series.

Havent been on the blog in a couple of days and trying to power through this thread. I have to comment here.

Vinnie I usually realy like your posts for the most part because I never agree with you but you really have to step back here.

We got jobbed on quite a few calls in game 1. Im not sure why it is but hopefully in game 2 we step up the aggressiveness and get the zebras' whistle back. If you like the celtics then there is no way you can dispute that the Cavs had the refs in game 1. Maybe it is because they controlled the physicality of the game from the opening tip but still...

You can be a fan every once in a while. I am assuming you are a pretty big fan since you post here  alot. However at times I feel you are just an internet instigator. Someone who just types messages to start arguments. A troll.

For instance look at the conversation I just quoted. You didnt bring up anything pertaining to the game. Instead you mocked the posters for complaining about the refs. Well guess what bub....we are allowed to do that. Thats part of being a fan. I know you are above such thought but you are really missing out!

Pick your battles my friend. A thread like this is not meant for you. It is meant for fans looking to vent about some bad calls that didnt go their way. When fans like us are looking for some banter about bad refs, the last thing we are looking for is bait. Save that for the silly Lebron fans. There are plenty of them I am finding out.

Not a great conversation for you. If you want to post in here then go about it more tactfully. Sorry.

I would like to say that the first 2 quarters in the 1st Miami game the refs were 100% giving everything to Miami to try to keep them in it.  I still have the game on DVR.

Then 2nd half everything changed.  In game 2 the refs once again were in Miami's pocket and only a PP game winner got us that one.  David Stern and the refs must have given up after that cause the refs were fair in game 3 and what happened? A blow out.

If the refs had reffed the game fairly in the first 2 quarters of the Cavs game, it would have been a blow out.

You are not alone. I think you are in the majority. Anyone just watching the games can see the inequality of the officiating.

You've got Games 2 and 3 reversed.  Game 2 was the blowout, Game 3 the buzzer-beater.

Last year Pierce was 8th in the league for free throws attempted per game. I don't remember a bunch of "Paul Pierce is getting calls he doesn't deserve!" threads back then.

Superstar calls have been a fact of life for a very long time, and it didn't start with Jordan. If you're well known, if you're a vet in the league, if you're aggressive with the ball and go to the hoop, you're going to get more calls. That's how it works.
