Tough exits for England and Mexico today. Their odds of winning were low to begin with but blown calls just made already painful losses worse.
TP, my thoughts also. For me, that's the difference between the "Big 4" (Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Italy) and the rest. They usually have the better team, the better luck and the better calls. Yet Italy was so "turrible" this year that neither luck nor calls would have helped them.
Yesterday Germany was the better team and they also got the key call. They'd probably have won anyway, because they are the team playing the best football. As for Argentina, they got the key-call that destroyed Mexican hopes. Argentina is not playing great, but they have the best forwards (Higuaín,Messi,Tevez,Milito), and they have power scorers in the midfield, like Maxi.
I feel sorry for the mexicans, they always play in a beautiful style, treat the ball well, like to attack... they came short, they couldn't compete with such a weak defense. It's a mental thing more than lack of talent, but Osorio's mistake after offside goal just killed them.
And for the english team, it's a shame that Capello hasn't found the way to build a team. Midfield was built more to please the media, you can't have Lampard and Gerrard in the middle. Why didn't Capello bring that guy from Tottenham, Huddlestone? Well, hopefully for the English next time will be better.
I'd rather have the Celtics win #18, than Spain winning the WC
