I'm still shocked about Italy out, they always are able to get the goal when it's needed the most. I guess they won in 2006, and luck reversed that badly this year. Sorry for the italian fans here, not for Lippi and the way he has lead them. Italy deserves a lot more than that.

sorry for ACF and the danish fans, goalkeeper killed them in the first goal, and after that Japan played better, although Denmark is the better team. Congrats to the japanese, Honda was great for them.

It seems like the travel to southern hemisphere's winter has affected the european teams a lot, and South American teams are playing the best WC I can remember. Italy is out, England or Germany will be out... Uruguay is having a good championship, and tomorrow Spain and Brasil could be headed to play against each other. I expect big surprises. Argentina could not reach semis.

Hopefully they start playing better football, this WC is "turrible" so far.

I know it's a little late, but came across this vid of the USA goal call.

What a match this was, and what a finish. Not much of a Soccer guy, but I'm always glued to the World Cup when it's on.

Yea, gonna be a great match on Sat.

Also, kudos to ESPN for going with guys like Ian to call the games, rather than force American ex-Footballers on us.

His call of this game was great, and the last goal in particular was made all the better by the best Soccer play by play guy in the world.

He's like the English Mike Gorman.

Brazil-Portugal has been very disappointing.

The Portuguese look better defensively than I thought they were though. More solid and consequently dangerous than I gave them credit.

Ian Darke is certainly not rated as the best football commentator in England.
He used to be Sky Sports boxing man, but was given more football when Sky started to cover less boxing.

Martin Tyler is my favourite - he also works for Sky.

That Brazil v Portugal is the type of game that stops football taking off in the US.

2 teams more interested in getting their opponents cautioned than trying to win and entertain.

My Final 4 are:

Uruguay

Holland

Argentina

Spain

Wow, that was a quick goal. Early goals are great in knockout games, adds a great deal to to the intensity and attacking intent of one or both sides.

Tim Howard shouldn't have gotten beaten on his near post though. He was out of position prior to the shot and that was why he was beat. Nice shot by Boateng but the keeper should have stopped that.

The US team looks way too hesitant and defensive, in my opinion.

No precise passing, and they don´t look crisp at all.
With a goalie like Kingson, you have to attack and shoot from any angle.

They have to take care of their defensive midfield, as well, the spacing is off. Clark was pretty bad, I think it was a good decision to take him off.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Oh boy, this one is setting up for one heck of a finish.

1-1 with 30 minutes to play. Both sides are going to have to go for it now.

Bradley has been terrific today. A very impressive player.

The US is controlling the game well now. Need to turn this dominance into another goal.

Very strange game. It has completely turned around from the first half to the second half.

Ghana has run out of steam. They are there for the taking. The US really should have won this in normal time.
