Well, Sheed will be there for us when needed. We still have many games to play until June.

Glen had us covered tonight.
Can I ask? Needed for what? He's not been there for us all year. What's he going to do now?

Or are you being sarcastic and I didn't catch it?
I gotta agree with this. I mean there's being positive and hopeful and then there's being positive and hopeful to the point of almost being delusional. I'm not saying you are delusional my friend but can you let us know exactly where this trust in Rasheed is coming from because, I don't understand it.

Was about to go to bed, but I'm glad that I came back to check the blog one more time.

No I was being truthful in my statement about Sheed. He will come up big for us, like he did on Christmas day..and in San Antonio.

Yes he has been up and down..maybe more down than up. But He'll be there for us when it's time.

No sarcasm here. I'm not like that. When I post something, I believe it.

I have Faith in the players and this Team, because of its Tradition. Sheed was brought here to be a part of it, and he will contribute in the flow of the playoffs, when it's time.

Danny didn't make a mistake by bringing him here.

The main problem here was him playing with Williams who was completely lost in defense, and Finley missed some assignments defensively. Sheed was alright for the night individually, nothing "terrible" like he's being made out to be. What was awful was the units he was playing with. Also, when he entered in the 2nd half, it was when Wade was starting to get hot from the 3-point line... poor perimeter defense in those moments, not much to do with Sheed. As far as +/- goes, it was just unfortunate coincidences... it happens.

If Finley's and Williams' missed assignments were the problems, then wouldn't they also have bad numbers? Williams ended at +4 and Finley at +1.

In the first half, when the game mattered, Sheed entered the game with the Celts leading 15-20. He left the game at 9:26 of the second quarter with the Celts trailing 29-25.

Williams and Finley stayed in the game for two more minutes, during which the Celts went on an 8-0 run to make it 33-29.

Players play differently during different points in the game. When Sheed was in there Williams was horrible.

Basketball is a game of runs, but during the time that Sheed was in the floor, Finley and Williams were the clear weaker links, though they benefited from Celtics runs during other times during the game.

Basketball basics.

Sheed was ok last night, not good, not great, not living up to pre-season expectations.  he was ok.

On the plus side, he hit his post shot, he didn't hoist up 3's, he played good defense on his man and rebounded ok when he wasn't out of position due to having to stop penetration.

On the downside, the hustle wasn't there.  The promise of better play in the playoffs has not really materialized.  Sure, he's marginally better than the regular season but that's setting the bar really low.

He's definitely been a disappointment this year. He may yet come up big in a game where we really need him to step up but admittedly that's optimism in the extreme.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale

In 2 games, the man who was signed to be this team's difference making sixth man in the playoffs, Rasheed Wallace, has averaged 5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 0.5 blocks, a +/- of -4 while shooting 43% from the field.

Which means he was +7 in Game 1, fourth best on the team, and better than four of the starters.  :D

I agree, though, that thus far this season -- including the playoffs -- Rasheed has been a disappointment.   I'm glad to see BBD getting minutes over him right now.

But plus minus DOES lie. It's been proven as a poor indicator.

Which flaw in plus/minus, specifically, would explain away Sheed's performance? I was actually reporting his net, so it simply wasn't that he was in a game that the team lost. He was replacing Glen Davis, so the "player he replaced is much better/worse than average" argument doesn't fly. And the small sample argument is bunk too - he played almost half the game.

And the "he was in when Miami was on a run" story seems flawed too. No one else had a number worse than minus-4!

Look, I'm not arguing that it says anything about him overall as a player. I'm just saying that his performance was awful tonight. It is extremely unusual to see a differential like that.

Um.. Rasheed was not subbing in for Davis, and they played alongside eachother a bit too.  I don't think Rasheed played all that poorly tonight, and felt like the Celtics needed to keep running plays that put him deep into the post.  He obviously could score at will within 5 feet of the hoop, looked good there, but they constantly run plays away from that, which I don't get.

Glen had us covered tonight.
This line of thinking is now comical.  Are we still going to be saying that next year or the year after?

Well, since you went there...

The fact that this thread is even here is comical.

Come one People.

Our team stepped up, Big Time. Without KG. We sent a message to MIA without our Defensive Anchor. Ray, Perk, Rondo and Glen played great.

Pierce will hit his stride soon.

The fact that this thread is even here somewhat demonstrates the fact that there are some people here who will Not like Sheed, no matter what he does.

I try my best to get along, folks, but I won't sit around and let folks belittle my comments here in the chat.

Where is the Respect, People?

For Moiso - what particularly is Comical about my post?

The Fact that The Boston Celtics Could very well be playing in June? Are you seriously counting us out now?

Or the fact that I believe that Sheed will play well for us here in the post season?

or both?

I'm just not sure what kind of evidence it will take for you to adjust your opinion.  There is a pretty enormous body of work this season to look at, plus two ineffective/indifferent playoff games.  Didn't mean to belittle you, sorry if I offended you, but at some point you have to consider the evidence.

Moiso,

I know that some folks love Stats. The numbers. That's ok.

I like numbers and stats as well. They certainly help in determining the worth of a player.

But there are Intangibles in Life and Sports..the things that you just can't put on paper.

Sheed has been up and down, maybe mostly down? this season. It is now the Post Season. He didn't have a bad game on Saturday, and even though this thread states (via Stats ::)) that he didn't play well in last night's game:

Again: Why does it even matter, lol? We crushed MIA last night. Why focus on what Sheed did (or didn't do?)

Now come Friday if he doesn't play well and we lose, then sure let em' have it.

So is the evidence you need from me related to Sheed? I just answered it.

Or the fact that Boston could very well defeat Lebron and make it to June?

I believe it. Until they are beaten. And If.

And Moiso - I apologize for my tone towards you. But it gets tiring sometimes when you see things a little different than others and get labeled as a Kool-Aid drinker or something.

I base my "rhetoric" off of the fact that this team (and its players) have overcome Many, Many odds during our existence.

Why can't we leave the door open for Boston in June of 2010?

The Celtics of Old Never Were intimidated by an opponent. Bird would've scoffed at Lebron. He didn't back down from Jordan. Or Magic.

Why are we so scared of Lebron? Gerald Wallace isn't.

Maybe we can win a title if we keep playing with the energy we had last night.  But waiting for Sheed to flip some switch seems like sitting in a canoe waiting for the Loch Ness monster at this point.

Yes you have a point. But hey if Glen can have the kind of game that he had last night, then I can certainly believe that anything can happen.

And Sheed has certainly played well in a few games this year. We would've lost on Christmas if it wasn't for his play down low (Wow - "play down low" - Sheed? lol)in that game.

And we would've lost in San Antonio if it weren't for his baskets then.

Sure these games may be few and far between, but I cannot give up on the man. I cannot change others opinions on Sheed, but all I ask is that folks respect mine.
