In terms of the bacons, I'd rate them:

1. Irish bacon (rashers)
1a. American bacon
...
50. Canadian bacon

Seriously, how is Canadian bacon even in the "bacon" family?  It's ham, plain and simple.  Now, I like ham, and there's nothing wrong with having it for breakfast...  but it's not bacon.  I feel like the Canadians are trying to pull a fast one on us.

More like a "slow one".  Those dastardly Canadians aren't fooling us with their bacon any more than the French are with their toast.

Don't say anything bad about french toast.

Not saying anything bad about it, just saying it's not really toast - otherwise you'd put in a toaster.  It's more of a souffled bread or something.

Why are so many breakfast foods so improperly named

Is Canadian bacon really bacon?

Is French toast really toast?

Are English muffins really muffins?

And what's with the nationalities in breakfast foods

Belgian waffles?

Mexican omelets?

I'm with you, except for the Belgian waffles.  Those are more something that you buy from a street vendor rather than have for breakfast.  At least, that's how they do it in Belgium, and they're good stuff.

Back to bacon, one of my friends went to the "weenies and wine" dinner in Boston a little bit ago, and said that desert was a cheesecake shaped like a hot dog, topped with caramel and . . . bacon.  Such a versatile meat.

My thought on this thread sort follows your anecdote. One of my philosophies in life is this: Everything is better with bacon. (Corollary 1A: Everything is better grilled on the BBQ).

Bacon makes a great hors d'oeuvres too

Like rumaki(water chestnuts and chicken liver wrapped in bacon) or bacon wrapped scallops or bacon stuffed mushrooms

And of corse there's all sorts of mixtures of bacon and other ingredients on crackers too

TP for corollary 1A: I busted out the grill last night for the first time. It hits 60 degrees once and my mouth starts to water for the BBQ!

Sadly, no bacon cheeseburgers though...

I just can't believe we haven't done this one before.

Then again, we probably have and my memory is just too hazy.

Either way...
