i'd bet my left stone that the knicks couldn't turn scalabrine into a 20 ppg scorer...

id bet my right stone that he could score 20 points in at least two games just like walker

lets not get too far ahead of ourselves...
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Can we give Bill Walker some credit?  Whatever you want to say, he's played effective efficient basketball while with the Knicks for the 5 games hes been there, plain and simple.  Will he be an all-star?  Probably not?  Will he be a solid player?  Maybe so, let's not forget that coming out of high school he was supposed to be a top 15 pick.  The guy isn't really someone who wasn't supposed to have potential.  Needless to say, there's ZERO reason that Scal got more minutes then Bill Walker did with the Celtics the past two years.  Bill Walker's past 5 games have shown that all he needed was minutes to be more effective then Scal on the floor.

Offensively, absolutely

I'm still pretty sure that Bill Walker versus a chair in a game of one on one is a close game though because he can't guard the chair

Scal for all his warts can guard mobile PFs extremely well one on one and plays very good team defense within the Celtics schemes and is almost always in the right spot and rotating on time and properly
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

And he's absolutely useless offensively.  He can guard mobile PFs, how many mobile power forwards in the league are there?  Rashard Lewis?  Lamar Odom?  There aren't many.  Scal has no use on the basketball court.  He is simply not good, Walker has a more positive outcome then Scal.

Josh Smith is another... and that's a trio that must be defeated to win a title.

If he was that good defensively, don't you think Doc would be playing him more in those match ups?  He averaged 8 minutes vs Atlanta this year, 9 vs Orlando and played 2 in the game he played in against the Lakers.  Especially since they all shot fairly well against us this year.  Walker is a better rebounder and I do believe defensive rebounding is part of defense.  Again, you can say Scal defends PFs well on the perimeter in the half court, but if so that is all he does well.  If any of those guys get in transition he's done and those guys also eat him up in the post.  Billy Walker just does more positive things on the court.

I am not sure how this became a debate over Scal vs. Walker.  Neither played much and for Walker to play more, Pierce, Tony Allen, or Daniels would have had to play less, not Scal.

Walker was traded for Robinson, not Scal.  It is a good trade.  Walker and/or Giddens may emerge as decent players but Robinson can make a real difference off the bench on a championship team right now.

If your beef is player development by Doc/Celtics, I get it but don't really agree.  Winning a championship and developing young players at the same time is hard to do.  You can nit pic and say oh Walker should have played a few more minutes here or there but in my view, Giddens and Walker were just not that close be being able to make a meaningful contribution any time soon enough.  Guys like them can be drafted or picked up as FA any off season you want.  It is just not that big a deal in my opinion.  I am glad we had them as trade bait and I am glad we traded them in this case.  I look forward to seeing next years up and coming late first/second rounders, not given a chance, future super stars.

Bill Walker will continue to play some really good basketball.

And Leon Powe will come back strong. He is, and always has been, a much better player than Big Baby.

As for some other ex-Celtics:

-Gabe Pruitt has always been bad. I used to crack up when I would see people complaining about Pruitt not getting enough PT. I believe he's in the D-League now, but expect him to be out of the league completely in a year or so.

-Eddie House, while I loved him, will probably continue to decline and retire within 2 years.

-Patrick O'Bryant, like Pruit, has always been awful. I'd make a prediction about him but I'm not sure he's still in the league. Again, hilarious how people used to say this guy should get more PT.

Just FYI, if you look at the posting rules you'll see this:
Quote
Do not start threads or make posts for the purpose of "calling out" other posters.  Retrospective threads are fine, "I told you so" threads aimed at making others look bad are not.

Your statement is off the mark, since I'm neither "calling out other posters" nor making a retrospective thread to say "I told you so". In fact your misunderstanding of what I'm saying is actually the reason why the attitude is getting testy in this thread.

I started this thread to "call it" i.e., make a PREDICTION. I'm not calling *someone* out, I'm calling *it*. All I said is that I'm PREDICTING that Bill Walker will be a good player.

Once that's established, you should realize that all predictions are forward-looking. This isn't an "I told you so" thread... it's far from it. As a prediction, this thread is prospective, not retrospective.

If it was understood I'm making a prediction, then there wouldn't have been comments like "Even Scal has scored 20 points in a game before, that doesn't make him good!"... I'm not arguing that Bill Walker is good BECAUSE he scored over 20 points, I'm arguing that BECAUSE Bill Walker is talented (based on what I saw of him last year) he'll CONTINUE to being a scoring threat in the future, and that his recent play has simply been indicative of that.

If people in here want to argue, argue about the merits of the prediction.

Funny thing is I could've swore i said Billy would do well under D'Antoni way before we knew the trade was in discussion (Probably in a Celtics vs Knicks game thread).

I'll just pat myself on the back now.

He has a solid line for tonight, dunno about the details though.

8 points on 4 of 6 shooting,
4 rebounds
1 each for assists, blocked shots and turnovers.

I'll cut my own rod off if Scal scored 20 in back to back games on any team in the league
