I've seen enough from Walker to say that, inexperienced or not, he could have helped this team, especially while we were short-handed.

I agree.  Finished with 23 in 25 minutes on 9-12 shooting.

who cares, I don't give a [dang] about him, he score on a bad team big deal, even me and you can drop 20 in a Knicks jersey, he showed that he can't play when he was here, he never got a real chance, but I only care about the facts

Walker do nothing in Celtics uniform - hands down

Walker do something in Knicks uniform - I don't care at all

Wlaker maybe will do something in his next teams - I don't give a [dang], since he's not a Celt anymore, that's not Al Jefferson to watch his beyond Celts career, that's Billy The Kid

doesnt mean the same will happen to Bill Walker, but I think it's more likely to happen than him becoming anything more than an average role player in the NBA

Assuming you're right that Walker is nothing more than an average role player in the NBA, the C's still could have used that this year when the injuries hit. Scal is a below average role player that received (and still mind bogglingly receives) playing time. TA is also an average role player. Walker could definitely have filled those roles.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
well, billy proved he could put up some points tonight (and a nice win on the road against the mav's).  but his box score line will also show that he had more turnovers than rebounds, assists, steals & blocks COMBINED... :)

The Bill Walker Fan club is growing with each game! He was 5/8 from 3 tonight, and is 9/15 in his last 4 games.

The Knicks totally destroyed the hottest team in the league at Dallas holding them to 94 points and had a lead of 37 points in the game.

I am not sure, but after each Bill Walker 20+ performance I don't think that his coach is too worried about his lack of D. I wouldn't be either.

It is simple - doc can't evaluate young players very well.

Bill Walker's current play should be a defining moment for doc.

It is embarrassing. Maybe Bill will be another Gerald, time will tell. Doc never gave him the chance to see what he could do. We are seeing now though, and it's tough to watch from this Celtics fan's point of view.

Yes..Bill Walker certainly has talent, but I think the players we received for him have helped us, too, with Nate being the biggest addition of course, and Landry being a potential player for us.

The most important part of your post - "his lack of D." We're supposed to be a defensive team, so you basically just summarized why he couldn't really crack the rotation here.

Furthermore, we're talking about a team that is completely run & gun, no sense of direction whatsoever. I said it before and I'll say it again, if you can't crack the rotation for a team as hapless as the Knicks are right now, you just may not be NBA quality.

As far as Doc not knowing how to evaluate young player - Glen Davis was once a young player, Leon Powe was a young player, Delonte West was a young'n, Rajon Rondo was a young player. But those guys have gained respect as being smart players - players with high basketball I.Q. I'm not saying that Walker and Giddens weren't, but with a team built to win now you're gonna lean towards the guys who clearly "get it" right away, as opposed to the ones who are incredibly athletic but opt to make the highlight play instead of the fundamentally sound play.

I'd hate to say it, but Bill Walker seems like a poor man's J.R Smith right now; when he's hot, he can get 20+, but when he's cold, he can't even score 10 points.

And, apparently he can put up the 3 once in a while.

Although, you gotta admit, he wouldn't be getting 25 FG attempts in 2 games with the Celtics.

I'm not arguing that we couldn't have used an average role player off the bench.  We definetly could have but some people, not everybody, but some people are acting like we just traded away a budding star.  I don't mean to sound negative in my previous posts but it's insane that this thread is dead for a couple games when bill puts up bad numbers but as soon as he scores 20 his stats are flying around all over the place.

It is simple - doc can't evaluate young players very well.I am so tired Of reading posts like this one. The record shows that not a single player Doc let go has gone on to do anything in the NBA. Walker may be first (or not), but to say that doc can't evaluate young players is utter nonsense.

Bill Walker's current play should be a defining moment for doc.

Props for trying to temper the extremes, but Billy's accomplishments have been impressive enough to raise my stingy eyebrows.  60% shooting is a fantastic pace for any wing over a 10 game stretch, much less a player who couldn't see floor time even when Pierce and Daniels were out and the only other option was Brian Scalabrine.

Still disappointed that Bill hasn't developed into a scrappy rebounder, but if he can continue to score at a high efficiency he can be a very valuable rotation player in this league.
