Danny Ainge has helped this team. A lot. He made it possible to win a championship, and picked up some amazing parts for super cheap (Rondo, Perk, Davis...) but I'm fed up. Ainge said he didn't see any big trade helping us out, and that we could win a championship with our current guys. WAKE UP! We lost to the Nets w/out Pierce, but still the NETS! A team that can't beat the Nets can't in any way beat Orlando or Cleveland in a 7 game series, no way! Fire Danny Wyc! Please, now!

Also, I love Paul Pierce, but if, for the sake of the team, a trade comes up involving Paul this summer, will we accept if it makes us better? Will Wyc? What's more important loyalty, or being a decent team that can BEAT THE NETS!?

Why on earth would you focus your "fire" desire on Ainge???  He isn't on the bench!  He isn't sitting idly there and contributing to the pathetic morale of the team!  Wyc needs to get out the pink slip, but not for Danny, for GLEN RIVERS!!!!

We are lucky enough to have another guy who could step right into the job, is already respected by the players, and would not need an overhaul of the offense and defense.  FIRE GLEN AND PROMOTE THIB!!!!!!

He was right. I can't understand why so many people here think we could have made some great trade. I never saw any proposed here that would have worked or made us better. That is unless all the other teams in the NBA are run by idiots who would do trades that don't help them.

This team has problems. It should never lose to the Nets. But Danny isn't the one who needs to go.
Peace through Tyranny

When Thib was put in charge for part of a game when Doc was tossed, Thib didn't make a single substitution.

Say no to Thib, please.

Ditto above.  I was so befuddled by your Ainge comment, I didn't even see your ridiculousness regarding PP.  Why on earth is he even on your mind?  He isn't out with a chronic problem, the guy has the freakin' flu!  He is the Captain for god's sake.  It isn't about loyalty, it's about he is still great.

AGAIN, THE ONLY CHANGE NEEDED IS OUR COACH!

Wow, what outstanding logic.  Are you serious?  You are going to base your opinion on the 5 minutes that he was the head coach (but not really) instead of on the effects he has had on our team's play over the last 3 years??????  The guy is 100% (at worst, 90%) responsible for the defense that won us a championship and even keeps us competitive in games like the one today when Ray can't throw it in the ocean and Rondo's head gets out of it because of fouls.

At the least, the guy has a fire that Glen has never ever ever ever ever had as a head coach.

Everyone knew the window was three years.  It was worth it.  We won a championship and until late December it still felt like we were contenders.  I'm sure Danny did his best to make the team better THIS year, but couldn't.  Ray has been solid, so trading Ray wouldn't have improved the team.  What could Danny have done?

Sadly, it looks like the window might be 2.5 years.  If we luck out with good health, good playoff matchups and an injury to Lebron and/or Kobe, we're just as good as any team.

One loss to the Nets doesn't mean they are as bad as the Nets.  Even in this "disappointing" season, they're still probably much better than they would have been if they kept, Big Al, Delonte, Gomes, the Jeff Green pick(which probably would have been Yi) and whoever else was part of the KG trade.

I'd kill for any of those players you just listed.

Would you give up the 08 title for them?

No, but I'd trade my soul, Rasheed Wallace, 2 picks and a philly cheese steak for Al Jeff or Green.

Pfft.

You'd just kill to get younger. That's really it.

I think Danny is still doing a good job.  Getting Nate was a good move, as we could really use a momentum changer coming off the bench (not that Doc will use him that way).

Trading guys like Ray might seem like a quick fix, but down the line, when you're trying to entice free agents to come here, it will help if we can show them some loyalty for doing so.

Danny only did at the trade deadline what Wyc allowed him too.
When Danny came out with the position that they would only trade Ray for a good young player and Cap Space, those were Wyc's wishes, not Danny's and that doomed Danny to failure. No one in their right mind was going to give us a young borderline star who would help us now and into the future without taking some bad paper back, never mind give us expirings in return.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Danny's failure, ironically enough, will be the same failure that Red had: loyalty.

The same thing that caused the downfall of the 80's will be the downfall of the 10's - an aging team that needs to trade a piece in order to span the bridge to the future.

I wouldn't even bring this up but Danny already has, because it was Danny who stated that Red should have dealt a member of the original Big 3.  Here we are 20+ years later and it's as if that lesson has been lost in Danny's ties to this team as well.

Doc will end up being the fall-guy, and hopefully it will be sooner than later.  This season can still be salvaged, but I believe if Danny feels this team needs to play harder, that it be DANNY who rids this team of Doc and takes a seat on the bench.  He has stood by this team so he should be the one to steer them back...

This is a good post. We won a title with this group. They got old and they're no longer dominant. Nor will they be again. We knew this would happen.

And no, I don't pine for the collection of flotsam that many of you so grossly overrated in 2007. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not the next time we land in the lottery.

Ainge isn't nearly as smart as some of you make him out to be, and Wyc's tight fists with Posey hurt us badly last year. But neither are either as dumb as the OP makes them out to be. They're both about average; I'd kill to have a top-notch GM in here like Morey, but Ainge has done NOTHING to warrant a firing.

Ainge and Wyc rolled the dice. They won big in 2008. Now, it's over.

Time to move on.
